| Democracy vs. Capitalism: Is Capitalism winning? (page 3) In the current two party focus, there is no alternative. America either gets republican corruption or democrat corruption. The republicans and democrats have locked people into a bind of degree. Is the corruption as bad as the opposite party? This is easily evident in the large numbers of people who justify their vote as the lesser of two evils. Isnt the lesser of two evils still evil? Someone once asked, how can presumably good people tolerate the presence of evil? The answer is, they were not given a choice. Or more accurately, they did not search out a choice. People say they dont vote for third party candidates because they have no chance of winning. The question is why not? The answer is found in the term third party. It implies there are only two parties worth considering. It also points to the illusion that there are only two real parties. One of the reasons that third parties dont have a chance of winning is they dont have the money, i.e., corporate backing for the amount of commercials to keep the sound bytes up with the two parties in power. Their positions on issues are less known and have already built up resistances to them by the two parties in power. If you watched the election in 1992, you noticed that a large part of the republican and democrat strategy was to tell Americans that Perot was unelectable because he was a third party candidate and could not win. Studies, based on exit polls and interviews showed that many didnt vote for Perot based on the illusion that he could not win and would have voted for him otherwise. The numbers support the conclusion that Perot would have won the election if people believed he could win. The people become their own roadblock. Why did so many oppose Perot and he take such a beating? Because he was not bought, so he became unpredictable in the eyes of the corporations. He could not be controlled by corporate America. Would he have been a good choice for President? That is debatable. The larger scheme of things points to the process. Perot would not be allowed to be President by playing on the perceptions that have already been created to maintain power by the groups that are bought and paid for. What can be done? Americans have to search out the truth. The mainstream media wont tell you the truth, they are corporations. Americans dont work hard enough to find the truth and truly understand issues. Many didnt know what the Bush or Gore tax plans meant, but they liked the way Bush presented his better. The spin war was won by Bush saying across the board for his own tax cut plan and asking will you be part of the targeted group when talking about Gores plan. The reality is that many didnt know if either was true. People complain that they dont have the time to search out the truth. The question is do you have the time to control your own future? The government makes decisions everyday that impact or have the potential to impact every individuals future in one way or another. Whether you call it democracy or a republic, the will of the people is supposed to guide government, not the money given to government officials. Individuals must search for the causes of problems, not just the band aid solutions that their government tells them about. For example, in our society, guns arent the problem, but the culture of violence that doesnt respect others and human life is. So what does government go after? The guns. If you take away guns, and the culture continues, what happens? Knives will be used, guns will be smuggled in, hand to hand violence will continue, rape, murder, abuse of children and spouses, all will continue. All because people want a simple solution that requires little or no work on their part to solve the problems. The truth is that whether it is a culture of violence that doesnt respect others or a corrupt government or any other real problem in society, individuals are the KEY to the solutions. Government cannot solve the culture. Government cannot solve the corruption. Government cannot solve most of the problems in society today. They are beyond the scope of what government can do or will do. The ONLY solution is individuals. And until those individuals care enough to find the truth, until they care enough to search out candidates, until they care enough to pay attention and act, nothing will be solved. However, another corrupt politician, whose agenda is bought by corporations and only cares enough to sound like he or she cares, will get elected and nothing will change. The Global Freedom Institute has many news sources on the news source page, and they are growing every week to add sites. Some are blatantly republican, others democrat. Some have obvious agendas, others have more subtle agendas. However, they all have information. Some of it is already spun to the agenda, and some of them have actual raw information. The responsibility is yours to not only research issues, but also to try to filter the spin to look for the truth. If you go to the Rush Limbaugh web site, or the soon to be linked Michael Kinsley web site, you should realize their agendas and look for facts and verify them on other news sources. When you get enough raw facts, you can come to a conclusion. Hopefully an informed conclusion based on information and not on spin. Capitalism is a good economic system, and democracy is the best compliment to capitalism. However, that is only if people fulfill their responsibilities as individuals in a democracy to search for truth and put in the efforts to prevent corruption. Individuals fulfilling their responsibilities in a democracy, is the only way to maintain a democracy that works. Only individuals can change society. It is up to you, the individual, to try. --GFI 2/12/01 1 2 3 Return to Main Page |
