Dancers
Founded in 1986, the Lyra Greek Dancers is a London based group of Greek and British enthusiasts committed to keeping authentic, traditional Greek dancing, costumes and music alive. The group has more than 200 successful performances to its credit including international folk dancing festivals and competitions.
The mission of the Greek Dancers of the Monterey Peninsula is to encourage the appreciation of modern and traditional dances from the mountains, mainland, islands, and tavernas of Greece. Emphasis is on the vitality and cultural heritage embodied in the dance. Our goal is development of feeling, empathy, and ability to partake fully in the beauty and spontaneity of Greek dancing.
Men and women and boys and girls of all ages and nationalities who are interested in learning modern and traditional Greek dances are welcome. Upon completion of the beginning and intermediate curricula, dancers are eligible to join the performing group, the Greek Village Dancers.
