The Parthenon and the columns
The Parthenon was an important temple built in Athens on top of the hill called the Acropolis.
Inside there was a huge statue of the goddess Athena, the patron goddess of Athens.
Today the columns of the Parthenon look like this. You can see how tall they are by comparing them to the figues in the photo.
The Parthenon was decorated with bright colours when it was first built. Today all the colour has gone.
