GREEK OLMPICS


The Greeks were the ones that invented the Olympics.They held these contest in honor of their gods.

The Pythian games took place every four years colse to Delphi.But the most famous games were those at Olmpia,located in south western Greece.

these games took place every four years.The acient Olmpics seem to have begun in the early 700 b.c.,in honor of Zeus.No woman were allowed to watch the games.



The games were largly expanded from one-day festival of athelics and wrestling to five days of many events.The order of the events is not really known,but the frist day of festival was devoted to scarifiaces.On dthe second day the main event took place which was foot race.
On other days wrestling and boxing took place wich became more of a brutal. After years the particpants acknowleged defeat. then hores racing came along and was a popular atraction.After the horse racing came the pentathion, wich was held of five events: sprinting,javelin-hurling, long jumping, discus-throwing, and wrestling.
