The Anciet Anthens Theater
The Ancient Theatre of Dionysos, where every Athenian citizen took their turn in the chorus of Greek tragedies, is on the southern slope of the Acropolis. No trace has been preserved of the 5th-century theatre which must have been simple in form with a few rows of wooden and stone seats. The preserved ruins belong to the monumental theatre built by Lycourgos. The permanent scene (stage) was then constructed, extending in the width of the orchestra Near to Acropolis is the area of Plaka, the oldest section of Athens Small streets with antiquities and souvenir shops next to traditional cafeteria and tavernas. The ancient Agora and the monument of Aerithes (winds) are also within the area of Plaka. Other attractions are the National Archaeological Museum, with gold items from Mycenae and Minoan frescoes from Santorini,a vast collection of statues and vases from the geometric period as well with prehistoric miniatures from the cycladic period. The Goulandris Museum of Cycladic & Ancient Greek Art and the War Museum which houses items from the Greek Revolution of 1821.
