Name, Address and Telephone Number:
Your name, address and telephone number should be at the top of your Curriculum Vitae. If you have a mobile phone number, e-mail address or fax number you could also include these here. However if a number given is for work you should indicate this. Any other pages should also contain your name.
(Top)

Personal Profile:
A personal profile is a short description about your skills and personality. An example would be;
X is an honest, well organised and reliable individual. He communicates well and is able to work alone or within a team. X has shown himself to be flexible and willing to learn new skills. (Top)

Employment History:
Jobs should be listed in date order starting with the most recent. You should include dates, your job title and the town in which the employment was situated. (Do not give the full postal address). Information about duties and responsibilities should be outlined in brief. Make sure that each job is clearly defined. You could use bullet points for ease of reading.

Try and use a variety of 'doing' words (verbs) to catch an employer's eye. Some examples of these could be:
created, co-ordinated, trained, introduced, designed, implemented, planned, negotiated, evaluated, analysed, built, maintained, tested, wrote, directed, checked, recorded, liased, assessed, improved, managed.

If you have had several short term jobs with similar duties you could group them together and then list your main responsibilities and duties.

Explain any gaps in your work history such as caring for children, being unemployed or travelling. If you are not currently working include any 'caring' responsibilities. You could also include any voluntary work undertaken or positive activities such as helping at a playgroup or coaching a child's football team.(Top)

Educational Qualifications:
Schools should be listed in date order starting with the most recent. Only include secondary schools and colleges with dates attended and qualifications gained. (Top)

Other Qualifications or Courses Taken:
If you have taken any other qualifications since leaving school or attended work based training courses these should be included on your CV. Put them in date order with the most recent first. (Top)

Voluntary Work:
Any voluntary work can be included on a CV. Give dates and details of any duties or responsibilities. (Top)

Hobbies and Interests:
Include any interests that you have outside work especially those that might have relevance to the job. (Top)

Other Information:
Date of birth should be included but marital status is optional. Remember that you are only including information that is relevant for the job that you are applying for. The fact that you are a non smoker can be included as can ownership of a full, clean driving licence. (Top)

References:
You do not need to put names, addresses or contact numbers on your CV. A phrase such as References available on request could be used. This allows you to choose the referee who can give you the best reference for the job. (Top)
