GCA's Saturday Slaughter; April 16th, 2005 from the Mile One Stadium in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada



For the first time ever, MMA comes to Newfoundland, the oldest settlement in North America. It's a rugged and harsh in its beauty and is a good backdrop for the harsh and rough beauty of Martial Arts competition.

Light Weight Fight: "Fearless" Jack Chun v Cho Chu Hai

Round 1: Jack Chun had control throughout much of Round 1, wearing down Cho Chu hai with kicks and straight thrusts.

Round 2: Cho Chu hai struck early in Round 2 with a viscious double claw that made Jack Chun bloody. Jack Chun went on the offenseive and the round saw both fighters go back and forth.

Round 3: Jack Chun got a killer kick combo that knocked Choi Chu hai down and discolored his face. Cho Chu hai got in a few shots but Jack controlled this round.

Round 4: Both men hit each other with sweet combos but a left punch, right kick combo from Chun ended it!

Winner by KO at 1:08 of Round 4: "Fearless" Jack Chun!

Heavyweight Fight: Nigel Watkins v Jack Carter

Round 1: jack carter hit a hard hard slam early, but Nigel battled back and rocked Carter with his left fist. It was a close round.

Round 2: Watkins tried a strike combo, but Carter lifted him and slammed him hard again! Carter mounted and pounded away until Watkins was out!

Winner by KO at 0:46 of Round 2: Jack Carter

Main Event: "Sumo King" Yoshi Irizawa v "Big Train" Bruce Roberts

Round 1: Early in the round, Roberts uses his speed advantage to outwit Irizawa. He then catches Irizawa with a reverse kick to do some damage. Roberts shows the ability to strike as the round ends.

Round 2: Irizawa is slow, and Roberts capitalizes. irizawa does get in a slap combo followed by a push, but Roberts slaps on a rear naked choke. Irizawa manages to get out, but get hit hard as he does so. He hits a couple of pushes out of desperation.

Round 3: In between the rounds, Ryan "Martini" Duncan and Bob Sky comment oon how Roberts is owning the Sumo King. Round 3 begins and Yoshi hits a charging push. he then chops Roberts on the forehead, rams his head into the cage and punches him onn the chin for the shocking win!
