| Thoughts on Positive Thinking |
| Positive Thinking, now, if you've come to this page expecting to be told how to visualize and obtain your wildest dreams, lottery win etc etc I'm sorry to disappoint you! Positive Thinking is about recognising first of all that there really is no Negative side to anything! If you think really hard about it, the experiences we benefit from and gain most from are the so-called Negative experiences. When was the last time you had a really Good experience and thought to yourself "I must learn from that!? We have a tendency to simply enjoy the Good Times and dwell on the Bad and learn from the Bad retrospectively as we use the knowledge to assist us in further difficult times. Imagine you are being bullied. For you that is Bad. For the bully though, it is Good! The overall experience is only good or bad from the individuals perspective. Even then you, the victim, learn how to avoid or even deal with the bully, so how can that be bad? You learnt something Good! So, there is only "Experience", what you get from it is entirely up to you! One way of staying in touch with this thought is to remember that before you incarnated into this physical body, you, the Soul-Being decided on a particular Life Path in which you intended to experience certain emotions and Life conditions. These are not predetermined situations just generalised, you maintain the freedom to reject or embrace and learn from these situations. What this does mean however, is that no matter where you are, and no matter what you are doing or what is happening around you, You are exactly where you are meant to be! So relax and enjoy the Experience of Life!! Recently I applied for a job. I really wanted the post, I mean REALLY, but didn't get it due to an interview that sucked. Sure I was disappointed for a few moments, but I remembered the above and thought OK, what do I get from this? Well, I looked out the office window and noticed that Life was going on as usual, so it wasn't earth shattering. I still had the present job so I wasn't unemployed and I identified a couple of things that I could improve on thru the interview questions. Best bit? I chose this for me so there must be something better just around the corner! Positive reaction to a negative event. Thinking positively frees you from the depression caused by dwelling on the negative experience. A negative thinker, even if he wins the lottery, will immediately start to contemplate Life from a negative perspective. "What if it turns out not to be me?", "What if my advisor is a crook and I lose the lot?". You know the drill. Negative, negative, negative. There is a saying "show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser". There's a lot to that, however, the implication is that only bad losers win. Not so. Good losers take the positive aspects from losing and use them to build upon for future use, they "know" why they lost and "know" what to do about it. Bad losers just get angry. Sure they become more determined, but is anger driven by the fear of losing and they don't actually know why or what they should be doing to improve. Visualizing and meditating on positive outcomes and looking for positive outcomes helps immensely. It promotes a Positive attitude to absolutely everything. Visualizing the Worst Case Scenario then realising that the Worst Case Scenario rarely if ever happens causes you to look at the Best Case Scenarios and off you go! More to follow, but in the meantime, think on this. You are exactly where you are meant to be Right Now, if you weren't you'd be somewhere else! :-))) I find that quite reassuring. Namast. |
