| "After months of reading the experiences here, I can finally give my own!! I have wanted to get my belly button pierced since I first started high school. But my parents are strict and conservative and they kept saying no. Finally this summer, I begged and begged until they finally said I could get it done, but only by a doctor. "Now I am telling the truth when I say I called every doctor in the phone book and asked if they would pierce my belly button, but none of them would. Now that I know better, I'm glad I didn't get it done by a doctor! But anyway, I begged some more, and my parents said I could get it done at a piercing place. "I had heard of this one place, and my friend had just gone there to get her belly pierced and she loved it. But when I called, they said you have to be 16 (I'm 15). I told them that they had just pierced my friend, who was 15 too, and they turned into real jerks, going off about how they check birth certificates and they've never pierced anyone under 16, etc. But I asked my friend, and she said they must've thought 2001 - 1985 = 16, they just didn't bother to check the month or anything. So I thought I can't go there, and I wouldn't want to anyway b/c they were so rude. So I called another place, and they didn't say anything about an age restriction. When I got there with my mom, they told me I had to be 16, and have BOTH parents there. By now I was EXTREMELY fed up with all these piercing places! My mom told me I could get it done for my birthday the next month, but I couldn't wait that long. "FINALLY I found a place that would pierce you if you're over 14. It was an hour away, and we got lost going there, but it was all worth it! We got to the place, and waited a little bit, then went back and talked to the guy. He was soooo nice and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to pierce me! Then I picked out my ring, which is a silver curved bar with a pink jem on the bottom ball, and a clear flower with a pink middle on the top. It is so cute!! Then he had me stand up, rubbed that brownish stuff on my tummy, and marked where he would pierce. "By this time, I was more nervous than I've ever been in my life. I was SO afraid of the pain, and I am such a wimp, but when I asked him how bad it would hurt, he explained to me that it should never be painful if the piercer really knows what they're doing. That made me feel a lot better. Then he told me to lay back, and showed me the clamp and said it wouldn't feel like anything, and he was right! A lot of people told me the clamp was the worst, but it wasn't. Then (with my eyes squeezed shut), he put the needle through and told me the worst was over. "It was NOTHING!! I'm going to be honest and say that you could definetly feel it, but it wasn't exactly pain, and I think if I could handle it, then anyone could! When he got the ring in (which didn't hurt either) I sat up, and I expected to feel dizzy or something, but I was fine! So he told me all the aftercare stuff, and then we paid and left, and the whole time in the car I was staring at my new piercing. I love it soooo much! It is the cutest thing ever. "At first I was a little worried because its kind of crooked, but I think I notice it more than anyone else would. I've had my piercing for about 2 hours now, and I feel fine. On the ride home (we got lost again so it took longer) it was a little sore, but nothing that bad. Then we went to the deli where my sister works and I showed everyone. They were all amazed that it wasn't red or swollen or anything! "I am so proud of my piercing. It is very unlike me to get a piercing other than my ears (3 in each ear) and I like how I'm surprising people. I feel like a different person! It just makes me want to go out and get tatoos and more piercings!! But I'm going to wait a while for that I think. I definetly want a tatoo, just a little one, probly on my back or something, but I'm going to wait till I'm in college. "I just have to say, when I read all these stories here, it really reassured me and made me more confident. I hope my story helps some of you. If your a little worried about the pain, TRUST ME: it is not NEARLY as bad as you think its going to be. It was just a little pinch and was over in 2 seconds! And this is the worlds biggest wimp talking. I just kept saying to myself: Whats the worst that could happen? It's not like you can die from the pain. And it'll be over in a few seconds. And it was! It is DEFINETLY DEFINETLY worth it to get your belly button pierced, and I am soooooo happy I did! Now I can't wait to go to the beach and pool parties and stuff to show it off!! Well I think I've gone on and on enough, so I hope this helps! =) "If anyone wants, you can email me at [email protected] and ask me questions and stuff!" ~Emily, NJ (Webmaster Note: This story was sent to me via BME. The procedure was quite simple; first i had to pick out a hoop (they told me it wasn't suggested that i got a barbell due to a hoop gives it time to heal). In 2 months i can switch to a barbell. Well i went back into a all white room with a dentist looking chair ... i layed down and rolled up my shirt under my bra kinda rolled down my pants and then he cleaned my belly button and had me stand up and there on he took a blue ink pen and marked two holes. He had me lay back down and told me to stay still! As i did and he clamped my belly button...it wasn't majorly painful but it kinda hurt! I was almost done at this point! He had the needle set aside and it was soaking in this goopy stuff he grabbed the needle and told me to breath in and out! As i did that he said, "ok, on the count of 3 im going to stick the needle in quite fast!" So he counted 1 ... 2 *he shoved it in* and said 3! It didn't really hurt it just startled me cuz i expected it to come on 3. Well anyways then he looped my hoop through and snapped my ball on took plyer looking things and tightened it! It looked so cute! Then he had me stand up and he cleaned the area with alcohol which burned after a little bit! But over all im really glad i didn't chicken out! For all u people out there that think it's gunna hurt don't listen just get it done even if it does hurt it hurts for a little bit and then thats it...it's done and over with!!" ~*Brittany* "I have four piercings: tragus, tongue, belly button, and madonna/beaty mark/monroe. The first one I got when I was 15 and that was my tongue.. it was nothing... it swelled up quite a bit and it took me awhile to be able to talk but I think it was well worth it. My tragus was second and this was probably the most painful of all my piercings, and it took a while to heal as well. If you have patience you can get this piercing and also if you have a high tolerance for pain. It's really neat looking though. My belly button was absolutely nothing.. nothing at all. A little more pain than the tongue... and it bled a lot.. but it was nothing. My madonna was barely anything. More or less a burning sensation. It really hurts now though.. I just got it pierced yesterday, and it's rubbing up against my teeth. I'm very happy with it though and I think it will be totally worth the pain." ~AnFPriNcess420 (Webmaster Note: 1/3/02-I just found this story in my email...I completely had missed it.
