Heartwarming but stale comedy in which Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) is preparing to take over the throne of the stereotypical-European-monarchy, Genovia, from her retiring grandmother, the Queen (Julie Andrews). However, a not-so-convenient law comes to her attention: A queen of Genovia must be married. Also, her uncle's cousin's nephew's stepson's former college roommate (*tee-hee*) has an obscure claim to the throne, and his uncle (John Rhys-Davies) (?) tries desperately to win the throne for him. Bad movie. Bad, bad movie. No box-office dog biscuits for you. The first third of the movie is spent repeating the jokes from the original, in the worst ways possible. The once bright characters and relationships are now flat, the jokes are awful, the plot is all screwed, and did I miss anything? Yeah... it's just not as fun as the original. OH! Good news and bad news: Good news: Julie Andrews sings. Bad news: Raven sings with her. BOOOO!!!
Hidalgo - 2004
Scenic but overall flat movie about the "legendary" Frank Hopkins (Viggo Mortensen) who starts off some random drunkard in Buffalo Bill's show, and becomes Winner of the Extremely Difficult and Overwhelmingly Long Race Entitled "The Ocean of Fire." (We all know he won, right? They wouldn't make it into a movie if he lost.) Along the way, he gets tempted, nearly assassinated, nearly eaten to death by cockroaches, swallowed up by a sandstorm, and saves some random girl from... something bad. There are some movies that feature actors, some that feature writers or directors, some for special effects, but I must admit, I've never seen a movie that solely features the weather. The whole movie is pretty much a Seabiscuit wannabe. Even Viggo Mortensen doesn't look like he's enjoying himself very much. Overall, a meteorologist's dream come true, and not much else.
