The story so far...
Early in the 21st century, mankind started taking a turn for the worse.  Despite all the protests and lobbying of mutants and mutan-supporters, Sentinels were employed to make sure that all mutants were registered in the United States and any mutant that resisted this was taken to containment camps.  Liberal media began leaking images from these camps and the public were horrifed to see children who had the possiblity of being a mutant being starved and tortured.  Even the president expressed shock and regret, as the Sentinel project was ordered to be terminated.  However, no one had guessed at the strength of the Sentienels and their programming as they began to rebel, seeing efforts to stop the containment camps rebellious behavior by mutant-loving, emotionally weak humans.  The Sentienels were programmed to ensure the safety and the future of mankind, as as these robots interpreted it, baseline humans were standing in the way of its safety and were now considered targets as well.  Unbeknowst to the public, new Sentienels with AI (artifical intelligence) had been created and released by an unknown source.  These new Sentienels proclaimed war on humanity for its own sake, and began their attack by bombing an unsuspecting New York.  After that, they attacked every major city of the world.  Initally, the Sentienels were met by resistance from unprepared military but superheros, both human and mutant, joined in the battle.  The turnaround of the battle was the second Battle for Britian, a horrific airfight between the Sentienels and the newly reformed Excalibur with the support of the British Air Force and other members from various X-Teams.  London was ruined in the fight, more so than any of the other cities.  However, the Sentienel casualities vastly outnumbered the human ones as the 'rebels' began to become on the offensive.  Kitty Pryde, Richard Reed and Hugh Brady were pulled from fighting and assembled with other top minds to begin working on some sort of weapon that would be able to destroy all the Sentienels.  Up to this point, the Sentienels were able to reconstruct themselves and to learn from their attackers.  The group came up with a virus that would wipe the Sentienels of their AI capablities so quickly their bodies would not have a chance to react and remedy the situation.  After that, the virus would spread and eventually shut down all of the Sentienel.  The real danger lied in the answeing the question of how this virust would first be contracted.  To ensure that the Sentienels would contract the virus, the zip drive holding the virus would have to be manually inserted into the back of the Sentienel's head, where some of the older models had disk drives.  The mission was a suicide one, and the group went back to work looking for alternate ways to solve the problem.  However, Kitty, the virus' creator, decided to take matters into her own hands.  Despondent over her currently difficult marriage to Pete Wisdom and his suspected adultery, Kitty secretly took the virus and began to hunt down a Sentienel to start the chain of events.  Hugh, her ex-fiancee, quickly discovered what Kitty was up to, and found Pete, berating him for causing Kitty so much pain that she would be willing and happy to give up her life.  The two former team mates quickly hurried after Kitty, with the help of one of Hugh's teleportation spells.  They arrived just in time to see Kitty approach the Sentienel and feed it the virus.  The two men watched horrifed as a beam of energy ripped through Kitty's unphased body and she fell to the ground, dead.  Meanwhile, the virus was successful and everywhere Sentinels were shutting down.  Wracked with guilt, Pete held his wife's body and contemplated suicide.  Lost in his sorrow, Pete did not notice Hugh as he summoned all his energy to create a life spell, bringing the woman back to life.  However, the spell's cost was great as Hugh then fell into a vegetative state.

But everywhere, the world was waking up to a new world, a world without the horrors of the Sentinels, a world with the potential for peace...
