S e n d i n t h e C l o w n s P a r t S i x How had he managed to fall in love with her? When had it happened, when had the boundaries been crossed, his guard fallen, his emotions set free? As her hands moved up across his back, her fingers tracing across his neck in smooth clean lines. It felt like heaven, or what hed always imagined heaven to feel like. He was aware of lifting her up and resting her back on his desk as the kiss continued, deep and intensifying with each delicious second. Now as he lay in bed the sound of her voice was pounding in his ears as sure as the blood pulsing in his brain, solemn, deep and gloriously consistent. Hed fallen big style and despite his attempts to sidestep the issue there was really no way he could deny it was happening. Shed begun to take over all rational thought; every feeling appeared to stem from her, every motive lead to her. The sheets pulled tighter across his body and he looked sideways at the sleeping figure. His wife, how the hell had he forgotten he was married? That his daughter was asleep in the next room and here he was fantasising about some other woman. Tomorrow he would tell her it was a mistake, and recommend she move to another department. * * * But as tomorrow dawned on him a sleepless Jack had reached no logical conclusion on how to end it, because every part of his brain was screaming out for her touch once again. She was at his desk when he made it to his office, her hair roughly clipped and hanging everywhere, her glasses sliding down her nose but her eyes sparkled as she looked up at him and smiled. Good morning, youre late. Couldnt sleep so didnt want to get up. He threw his jacket down on the sofa. Regrets? He sat down resting his forehead in his hands. I dont know, I really dont know Nora. I cant stopwanting you. She smiled pleased and stood up moving toward him, bending down in front of him and taking his hands. Good, I want you to want me. God youre so innocent you dont realise how wrong this is. Yes I do, I just dont want to think right now. But we have to, Im married, youre technically my student. I could be fired. And thats the most important thing right. Hell Nora Im not a kid, this is my life. Right and I am a kid so my life isnt important. You seem to forget you kissed me. If you didnt want this you shouldnt have started it. She stood up and began putting her jacket on. Where are you going? Out, for coffee, to wake you up. I think Im in love with you, and I cant stop it. And you want to stop it? I have to. Dont. She closed the door after her and skipped down the hall and into the street. * * * Jack was home late, Sarah had been asleep for over two hours and Jessie was soaking in the bathtub when he went to change. What happened, a sudden surge of criminals? She asked not even looking up from her book. Couldnt get away. You mean you couldnt tear yourself away never mind, I dont think my parents even noticed. Jack sat on the edge of the bed and loosened his tie. Im sorry, I forgot dinner. Not the first time. I said sorry, I cant always be at your beck and call I have a job to do. If I dont we wouldnt be living in this house Ok dont start ranting on. Shut the door I want some peace. Jack got up and gently closed the bathroom door without even looking at his wifes body relaxing in the tub. There was no need, he wasnt interested. Something in his psyche had shifted dramatically. He went through the motions, undressing and making tea before resting in his favourite spot, out on the porch. The night was peaceful, or maybe it was just Jack who was peaceful. He closed his eyes and once again remembered the sweetness of Noras touch upon his skin. Cramped up on the couch in his office, with her body tightly resting against his, there was no need for him to try and seduce her or whisper his adoration to weaken her, he didnt want sex from her just the warmth of companionship. And right now as he sat replaying the scene in his mind he wished she were there with him so he could tell her how hed fallen in love with her over and over. P l e a s e r e v i e w S t o r i e s |
