Following the invasion of Normandy the Allied High Command created the first airborne army in history. Included in this Army were the American 17th, 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, which made up the U.S. XVIII Airborne Corps; the Polish 1st Parachute Brigade; and three British airborne divisions, the 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions and the 52nd Lowlanders (air-tranported). Also incorporated were the American IX Troop Carrier Command and the British RAF 38th Group.
