On the outset Ambrose was unhappy with the setup at Ford Tickford Racing, Dean Canto was a definate for the seat. Then chaos, Craig Lowndes came out to the V8 world to announce his departure from Holden and his new home would be Ford. To capitalise on the situation K Mart racing owner Fred Gibson came out of semi-reitrement to announce his team would dump its Commodores and take on Falcons, all in order to net Craig Lowndes. A flow on effect of this was the sudden dumping of Greg Murphy and Steven Richards. Greg Murphy became embroiled with talks with Holden Motorsport and FTR snapped up Steven Richards. Relegating inaugural V8 Lites champion, Sydney sider Dean Canto to testing and endurance commitments at FTR. On the opening event Steven Richards provided FTR with a podium at Albert Park with a second place in the second race. However FTR seemed consistent but lacking punch, Eastern Creek put Glenn's abilities on display. Taking the lead of the race from the second row and well before the first corner of the weekend. Conrod forum regular "Stevo" displayed a banner proclaiming; "Polities buy all the drivers you want ... but Seton is still Fords man!". However whilst Seton may have had his launch technique down to a t, pit strategy at FTR left much to be desired. Whilst Paul Romano beached his EA Sport Commodore, the safety car washed away any chance of FTR victory. Starting from poll position on the full reverse grid second race of the Canberra round, team mate Steven Richards collected a race win for FTR. Bathurst again escaped Glenn as the Falcon rocket ahead of new comer Marcos Ambrose to command the opening stages of the endurance event. Glenn had qualified the #5 FTR Falcon onto the front row along side the pole Pirtek machine. Glenn Seton jumped to the lead ahead of the Pirtek machine and opened a sizable gap to lead the opeing stage of the race. A rubbing tyre put a dampner on the race pace of the #5 car. Coupled with a rigid pit strategy which revolved around fuel stops. The rubbing eventuated with a cut tyre. However the sister car of Dean Canto and Jim Richards came a sterling 5th after qualifying 10th in the shootout. The awful truth of FTR was soon to be revealed. |
