Following a year of unsuccessful racing in the North American Touring Car Championship, Neil Crompton joined GSR. Though Neil Crompton came 3rd in America in 1997, his Honda Accord lacked the sponsership dollars he needed to be competitive. Given that Neil had close ties with the team that reported the Touring Cars (having once been a pit lane reporter and the first reporter on the scene of the famous Texaco Sierra scandal at the Bathurst 1000), GSR gained a driver with not only cross promotional potential, but also driving talent. Neil Crompton drove for GSR in the second Ford Credit/O'Brien Glass Falcon (#111) at Mallala (13th), Calder Park (12th) and Oran Park (12th). Then joined team leader Glenn at Sandown and Bathurst. Neil also drove Glenn's #5 Falcon at the Hogs Breath V8 Supercar Challenge Race 2 finishing 10th. |
