Years of Group A racing saw irrelevant cars racing in a series that was too expensive to maintain. This was first time hostilities were restarted between Ford and local rival GM-H since 1984's Group C was put to bed. The series was aimed at racing cars that Australian's could identify with and a formula that would allow a level palying field. GSR was the Ford team that fired the first V8 salvo, racing the V8 alongside the agile Ford Sierra at Bathurst 1992. The early development on the Falcon gave Glenn Seton a head start on the field. Including Holden Racing Team, a team which was still racing the V8 Commodore before the localised formula began. [Please note the images of the #30 Falcon on this page are being driven by then Wheel's reporter Mark Fogarty, Mark now works for Auto Action.] Glenn Seton was leading the Sandown 500 until he was forced to retire. |
