Alton Glenn Miller was born March 1st. 1904 in Clarinda, Iowa to a Mr. and Mrs. Miller. Later the Miller family moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where his High School football team took 1st. in the state.
Mr. Miller went to CU in Boulder, Colorado for college. Glenn even got a 50 in Harmony class, but he dropped out in 1926. Glenn also met his wife to be, Miss Helen Burger there.
In 1927 Glenn Miller got his start in the Ben Pollack Band. Glenn also met? a young Benny Goodman in the Pollack band.
Glenn Miller started his own band in 1937, it flopped. In 1939 Glenn landed a gig at the Glen Island Casino. He captivated the crowd as nobody had ever done and done since.
In 1939 Glenn got a shot at broadcasting for Chesterfield on WABC New York. He spent the next two years selling albums like "Moonlight Serenade" and "In The Mood" and broadcasting on the radio. He was even in two movies,
Sun Valley Serenade, and Orchestra Wives.
Glenn got the idea to enlist and and became Capitan Miller. Miller decided to to join the Army and entertain troops. He later got a promotion to Major. He toured England entertaining troops. On December 15th 1944 Glenn Miller mysteriously disappeared over the English Channel on the way to a concert to Paris for the troops.
Glenn Miller was a great man and a great musician. His legacy will live forever.
