To be trained - To be taught something that is difficult & needs alot of practice
Youth - A young person (Especially teenagers)

To bring down the house - To give a great performance at a show which impresses the crowd and makes them clap very loudly
Salieri - ''This song brought down the house when we played it first.''

A composer - A person who writes music
Alone - This word has the meaning of '' and that's just a one example of what I'm talking about ''
Salieri '' I was the most famous composer in Europe.I wrote 40 operas alone''

Childish - Like a child
Salieri ''I was still playing childish games when he was playing music for kings.''

Symphony - A long piece of music written for a large orchestra
Emperor - The ruler of an empire
Musician - A person who plays a musical instrument or writes music ( Especially professionally)
To compose - To write music

Frustrated - Annoyed or impatient because you can't do what you want
One minute....and the next...... - This is used to forms sentences when you start do something and then later you are doing something surprisingly different
Salieri '' One minute I was a frustrated boy in an obscure little town,the next I was here in Vienna, city of musicians.''

Melody - The main tune of a piece of music
To commision - To ask an artist, musician, writer etc to do a piece of work
Marriage - The state of being husband and wife
Theatre - A building where you can see plays, shows etc

A performance - The act of performing (playing) in front of an audience
Score (Musical score) - The written form of a piece of music
A rehearsal - The time when you practice a piece of music before giving a performance to other people
Duet - A piece of music or song for two people to sing or play

To ban / prohibit / forbid - To officially say that something is not allowed (Often by law)
Kappelmeister Bono ''What is this 'Marriage of Figaro'?''
Rosini ''It is a French play. It has been banned by the emperor.''

To persuade - To make somebody do something by giving them good reasons
That will do! - A phrase that means ' That's enough. Stop'
Mozart ''How can I persuade you,Majesty, if you wont let me show it (the opera)?''
Rosini ''That will do, Herr Mozart''

To take up something with somebody - To ask or complain about something
Fair - Equal treatment according to laws, rules or feelings
Mozart ''It's not fair that a man like that should have power over our work.''
Salieri ''But there are others who have power over him. I think I'll take this up with the emperor.''

To have no-one to turn to - (phrase) To have no person who you can ask for help
What is it ? = What's wrong? /What's the matter?
To tear up - To pull something (usually paper) into pieces
To rewrite - Write something again with changes
Mozart ''Please, I've no one else to turn to.''
Salieri ''What is it?''
Mozart ''It's unbelievable.The director (Rosini) has actually torn up a huge section of my music.They say I have to rewrite the opera.But it is perfect as it is. I can't rewrite what's perfect.''

Regulations - An official rule that controls how something is done
Rosini ''It is your regulation,sire. No ballet in your opera.''

A piece (of work) - A single work of art, music etc
Mozart '' I would like you to see my new piece. It would be a tremendous honor for me.''

To rise - To go up vertically
Ghost - The spirit of a dead person that is seen or heard by a living person
Dreadful - Terrible, awful, very bad
Salieri '' And so rose the dreadful ghost from his next and blackest opera.''

Influence - The power to affect, change or control
To see to it - To make sure something happens
In secret - Secretly
Salieri ''Through my influence, I saw to it 'Don Giovanni' was played only 5 times. But in secret, I went to every one of those 5.''

To not have a pot to piss in - A phrase meaning to be very poor and have nothing ( Not even a pot to do a toilet in )
Mozart's mother in law ''( I told her ) If you marry him, you won't have a pot to piss in.''

Colleague - A person who works at the same place as you (Normally for professional and office jobs)
Mozart '' You are the only colleague of mine who came.''
Salieri '' Mozart, I would never miss anything you had written.''

To cheer up - To become happier (when not feeling happy)
A share - A part or amount of something that has been divided between several people
Mozarts friend ''Give him this (money). That's his share. That should cheer him up.''
