**The Godfrey Smith family and the John Pence family settled near Black Jack Grove, which later became Cumby. Susan, George, and Frances, all unmarried, remained there with the Smith family. The others, including William Johnson, came to Dallas County and claimed land in Dallas and Ellis Counties under the Peters Colony grant. Their farms were on Eear Creek south of Lancaster, near the Ellils County line. John Mullican and Nancy Jane settled in Ellis County immediately south of the others.
