DEVON ROARK

Devon was born in the city of Illian, of a noble house. His father, Rodrick Roark, had Devon schooled with the sword from the time he was eight. By Devon's sixteen birthday, he was presented with a Heron Mark sword...the blade of a blade master. When Devon was seventeen, his life changed dramatically. He felt the presence of Saidin, the male half of the One Source. Since the times of Lews Therin Kinslayer, Saidin had been tainted by the Dark One. Like an oil slick covering water, you could not reach the water, without dirtying yourself from the oil. No man could channel without taking in the taint and eventually, going insane.

Devon had not touched Saidin...he had not yet drawn the One Source, but he know it was inevitble. He had the natural born ability, it was only a matter of time. He could felt Saidin every time he assumed the Void, a mental concentration technique of sword masters. A whimsical idea came to him, floating across the void, so rediculous, he had to try. The taint would saturate him, corrupting him over time. But it would do nothing to his blade. Within his mind, he reached out to Saidin, but with his sword, piercing the taint of the Dark One, and drew Saidin through the blade. He was the first man, since the Age of Legends, to channel Saidin safely...well, so to speak.

No male Aes Sedai remained. None for over two thousand years. Devon could channel...he could draw the True Power and do great works with it, but he had no teachers...no mentors. The women Aes Sedai hunted the men who chould channel, gentling them or killing them to keep them from breaking the world again. What Devon could do, he must learn to do on his own, and he had to learn control, or the One Source would kill him as surely as the taint would kill his mind. Devon had no idea how the One Source worked, had no idea how to control Saidin...its power within him was like being alive and never having known you weren't before. But, by the light's own luck, Devon had spent most of his life learning the sword. He reflected on learning something so in depth and complex. He remembered starting the the basics. Baby steps. That was the key. He had to start small, force himself to handle as little of the One Source as he could, before he could advance.

Devon learned, step by step, gaining some control over Saidin. He had no way of knowing if he had even a fraction of the power or control he should have, but he did have the feeling, the deep seated idea, that at least he wouldn't distroy himself. Life would go on. Untill the Aes Sedai arrived. They would not believe that Devon had not touched the taint on Saidin. They only knew he was a man who could channel. They captured Devon had began to take him to Tar Valon for Gentling, or, permenatly cutting him off from Saidin. Devon was helpless, untill he managed to unweave the Aes Sedai's power over him. He excaped and spent the next two years of his life on the run.

Devon ran from the Aes Sedai, only casting against them to keep himself alive and free. He would not fight them, not to harm or kill them. He hated the Aes Sedai, but he knew they had a part to play in the Tapistry. He knew the Aes Sedai had lost much of their former glory and to kill even one would hurt their numbers. During the two years he spent fleeing, some had even labeled him a False Dragon, a man claiming to be the one that would save the world. Devon never made the claim himself. He could cahnnel, but he did not suffer from delusions of grandeur. Devon did encounter a false dragon though, a man named al'Ronin. Just as Devon knew he was not the Dragon, he also knew he had to fight against al'Ronin...he had to stop him from causing any more distruction and havok.

They crossed swords on the fields outside of Illian. Strange that the last he would see of his world would be the countryside he grew up in. al'Ronin fought with the unbriddled fury of a madman. Weilding the True Power with reckless abandon. At first, it was all Devon could do to stay alive...to conteract al'Ronin's onslaught. But al'Ronin was no match for Devon's blade. Before long, the tide of the battle turned. Devon began to get the better of al'Ronin, slowly, but surely. Before he could end this false dragon; however, the Aes Sedai arrived. They had hunted Devon long before they knew of al'Ronin. They were not about to let him excape their grasp again. Twelve of the Red Ajah faught against him and al'Ronin as well. Devon went from winning the battle to struggling for his life. One of the Red drew an angreal, a mystical creation that drastically increased what an Aes Sedai could channel. The next Devon remembered....the next he regained conciousness, he was in a world not of his own, an inch from the grave.

By the luck of the light, or the Dark One's own, the powerful force of magic Devon had attempted to brace himself against sent him through a rift into the world of Domini. He has learned that the One Source is not tainted here, but he has also learned that some how, in some fragmented form of himself, al'Ronin survived and passed through the rift as well. Now, Devon seeks to gain more understanding of his power, to learn how to channel and how not to distroy himself. Devon also seeks to fight for these Dominions. They have treated him with chilvary and kindness so far and he feels a loyalty to this Empire.
