The Life and Times

Of Dalanar

A family lived in Ar a decent bit ago…they were a family of note as the father was one of few men alive that could forge star metal. He cared well for his free companion and his three sons. His name was Thonolan and he was the head of the House of the Lanzadonii.

Thonolan’s contract to his companion Jetamio was for life. She was quite the free woman. Strong were she had to be, loving and compassionate to her family and never anything but what a woman of Gor should be.

Jetamio raised three boys, each one dear to her…each one well cared for from their fathers wealth and influence and their mothers love and dedication. The three young brothers were Dalanar, Chambers, and Darkwight.

Dalanar and his brother Chambers were all but inseparable…Darkwight on the other hand seemed different from the other two and, indeed, the three of them hardly got along when they were all together. However, through out the many adventures of their growing up, each Brother never failed to come through for the other when it mattered. Darkwight studied from his mother and learned the ways of the Scribes, Chambers and Dalanar cherished their experiences on the plains and Chambers worked hard to learn the ways of tracking and the hunt…his skill with a bow became almost unparalleled. Dalanar, an avid Tarnsman and a lover of the plains, still was closest to his father and apprenticed in the arts of blacksmithing. His skill in crafting weapons grew with his age.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck. Although very skilled with his steel, Thonolan could not survive the onslaught of the raiders on the plains…Dalanar arrived first of the three and only found his father’s body left for the sleens and the sword of the Lanzadonii.

The family was at a loss…the love and support of their father was gone, lost to the savage wilderness. Jetamio was an intelligent woman and handled the family money and investments well. The teenaged boys lacked for nothing, yet still felt an overwhelming emptiness. Slowly, at their own times, each of them left to seek their own way in the world.

Dalanar knew most of the cities from many visits in his youth. First, he wandered aimlessly, not sure of where he was going or what he expected to find. Eventually, chance had it that he found himself in Turia. Thurnock sat on the Dias with Rain at his side. The city was as it always had been, a marvellous experience with some of the best slaves anywhere. As a young man new to the city, he set himself up at the cities forge. Never having been able to learn the art of forging star metal before his father died, he contented himself in the forging of more contemporary weapons. A young woman caught his attention and soon a courtship was started.

Nanti was indeed a beautiful woman and her compassion to Dalanar was like a weight being lifted from his shoulders after his father’s death. He kept in touch with Jetamio through letters and correspondence. Nanti and Dalanar joined in free companionship not too long after his coming to Turia. Soon after, Nanti told him about a slave girl that she wished to own with him. Dalanar met the girl and soon knew why she was one of the best to be found.

Dalanar now had sasani in his and Nanti’s kolar and Nanti as a free companion. His life now seemed much fuller and more complete, but like all good times, trouble wasn’t far away.

His loyalty to the dias and his helping the Ubar eventually led to his appointment as city second. Not long after that, several of the city’s citizens left Turia for Ar. A large mess arose over the whole matter and not long after that, Thurnock and Rain left the city and Dalanar was on the Dias as Ubar. With a city and a family to run, he had his hands full more then ever. He saw his brother Darkwight again…Dark arrived in Turia after having traveled for quite some time abroad. It took him much longer then Dalanar to want to settle down, but unlike his brother, that would not last.

Darkwight stayed for a short while in Turia and the two brothers where heartened to see one another again, but soon, Dark sought the world again and took his leave.

The reappearance of Darkwight seemed to be an omen of good things to come and sure enough, it was not long before the last of the three would find his way to Turia.

Chambers came into his brother’s city and at last, the two were inseparable once again. Chambers took up the responsibility of hunts master of Turia as his Brother sat on the Dias. However, with business abroad for both of them, they were kept very busy. In fact, Dalanar had to be gone from the city for damn near a year on a voyage across the Thassa sea. Returning home, he found things were not exactly as he had left them.

Nanti had been kolared and taken from the city. Chambers was off on one of his adventures when he returned, so was not able to assist him either. By the time Dalanar was able to learn of Nanti’s location, she had won her freedom and made it to Port Kar, a city at peaceful and friendly relations to Turia. Dalanar left at once to find her and brought her back to the city. While in the process of talking over their contract as it had just lapsed, Dalanar wishing to renew for life rather then one year, Nanti left Turia and left no word of where she was going to. Needless to say, Dalanar was quite heartbroken over the experience. His city empty, he only had his slave girl and his tarns left…

Dalanar wandered with His slave for a long time…not knowing where to call home. He finally came to Tharna…His brother Chambers had moved to Tharna and so had Elany, from Turia. Tharna was good home for Him…it allowed Him to re-evaluate His life and put His priorities in order.

In Tharna, He courted Elany…the truth of the matter was that He had secretly desired Her for some time, and She the same. Their romance was whirlwind, ending in an FC contract signed for life. Elany and Dalanar started to visit the ruins of Turia…one on such visit, Dalanar took Elany and Her slave girl wild fury to see the Home stone…on an impulse, Dalanar took it with Him for safe keeping. Talk started of rebuilding Turia…a pipe dream at first, but soon the dream grew and started becoming reality. Within the next few months, plans were set, reconstruction began and soon Dalanar, Elany, their slaves, Bruik and His slave shahar all moved back to Turia.

Dalanar took His rightful place back on the dais Turia. He quickly appointed His blood Brother Bruik to the position of City Second. Unfortunately, His true Brother Chambers had made His home in Tharna and wished to remain there…it was truly a benefit to the people of Tharna, but saddened Dalanar’s heart some.

Darkwight had not been seen since leaving Turia long ago…no one knew where He was or what He had been doing.

Construction of the City didn’t take long as most of the City was solid marble and not damaged by fire. Needless to say, many of the slaves were not too happy about scrubbing soot off of all the walls.

After the reconstruction, a slave came to the City seeking kolar, but not of the city. This slave had been known by a name before and had visited several times…Dalanar knew she was a good slave and served well. It did not take Him long to decide that she would be worthy of His personal kolar and gave her the name sinder.

Turia thrives yet again. Its lifeblood restored by the devotion of those dedicated to the Home stone. Dalanar still sits as Ubar and does His best to serve the Home stone first and foremost and deal with His citizens with Honor and fairness. He has His slaves, a wonderful and loving FC and His blood Brother Bruik who is as close to Him as true.

Many slaves came to the city, and became part of the Turian family. One such girl was azeezah. A beautiful white silk who served well and showed a spark of originality few possess. She had a cuteness about her and after speaking with her on many occasions, Dalanar saw that a fire did indeed burn deep inside her, waiting to be freed. It did not take long for him to decide that he loved this one, that he wished to own her completely. It was a very joyous day when he took her in his personal kolar.

Not all was finished in Dalanar's life...not by far. A woman he had not seen for many years came to Turia. Her name was Amaranth, his cousin from Treve. It gladdened his heart to see her again as he, Chambers and her had always been very close. Not long after that, yet another woman came to Turia, named Alya. Through conversation, he learned that her father was Thonolan. This was a shock as Thonolan had been FC'd to Jetamio for Dalanar's entire life and more. Still, she was welcomed into the family with opened arms, the sister he never had, though by a different mother.

The rest of Dalanar's life was not going quite as good though. The relationship between him and Elany was having some difficulties. Then, one evening at a council meeting, after he had left, Bruik, for one reason or another, decided to kolar her. She was stripped, bound, and placed into a slave box. Unfortunately, by Gorean law her and Dalanar's contract had expired without them realizing it. Bruik made one mistake however, he did not remove the poison pins from her hair. Dalanar always loved Elany's strength and it was that strength that kept her from being a slave now. She managed to move her hand just enough to free one poison pin despite her restraints and scratch her face with it. That was all the deadly venom needed. When she was checked on in the morning, a corpse was all that was left.

Life continued to go on after this tragedy, though some of the flavor was gone. Still, Turia thrived and was in a prosperous time. Trade was established with two of the wagon camps as well as peaceful relations with the Tuchuks.

Dalanar received word from his mother, Jetamio that an old family friend, across the Thassa sea was in serious trouble. Dalanar left quickly to go see to matters, taking one of his mother’s ships for the long journey. Matters did not take long to settle, but with the length of the voyage, he was still gone for a few months. When he got back, he never could have believed the treachery that had befallen him.

Some different people had tried to claim the Dais for their own. Bruik had stepped in as city second to hold the city, but shortly after, claimed the position of Ubar for himself. Sasani, Dalanar’s most loved and treasured slave, took her own life for some unknown reason. Azeezah had been given to Elrick, whom to his honor, left her in Dalanar’s kolar. Sinder was taken out of his kolar and given to a free woman new to the city. Dalanar had a strong resolve to take back what was stolen from him. To make matters even worse, many lies where being spread about him, threatening to even take his honor from him. A strange pact struck with the priest kings even made it impossible to kill or capture anyone within the walls of the city. Dalanar spread the word that he would retake Turia and there was nothing Bruik or anyone else could do to stop him. Bruik even went as far as to exile Dalanar, fortify the gates and order the guards to hold Dalanar for torture should he enter. Now, stood one man against a city, one man with all the odds stacked against him. Now, Turia would learn the true meaning of the word Warlord!

Dalanar rallied the support of his brother, Chambers, who was now the Ubar of COS.

Well in COS, he ran into one of Bruik’s slaves, shahar. Shahar was a beautiful woman, strong, yet serving with absolute obedience. Dalanar had loved her for quite sometime, but has he was Bruik’s blood brother, he had no reason to take her for his. Shahar had run away, when she knew that Bruik’s strength was nothing and he could not protect her or keep her safe, which is what a master is supposed to do. Dalanar quickly took her for his, placing his kolar around her throat.

He also called on his blood brother, Maximus, Ubar of Koroba. He knew he could also count on help of three of the wagon camps, should he call upon them, but he also realized that this was something he had to do for himself. The matter of the gates worried him none at all, for he rarely used the gates and Bruik should have known that. He came in on Shadow Lord, the most powerful and fiercest war tarn ever seen. He landed on the roof of his cylinder, where he had placed the homestone and stole it, flying quickly away to COS. The war was fought without any blood being split. No swords were drawn, but most battles are like that, contrary to popular belief. Bruik left Turia quickly, rather then be killed by the angry mobs of people when they learned that he could not do the one job an Ubar is supposed to do...to protect the homestone at all costs. Bruik lacked the courage to fight against Dalanar and that cowardice cost him everything that he had stolen. Sinder was freed, azeezah had run away to Kassar south, where she knew Dalanar had friends. Dalanar returned to Turia, taking his place on the Dais once again.

A rarius came from Kassar south, escorting azeezah back home. FraMan, Ubar of Kassar south had held the girl for Dalanar, without any request for ransom or payment. This showed Dalanar much honor and his heart rejoiced to she his beloved azeezah again. He still had not seen sinder since he had been back, he knew only that she had been freed. His first official action as Ubar was to appoint Elrick has city second. Now he sits as Ubar again, ruling Turia has he always has...firm, strong, powerful, a man no one has ever stood against and won, yet always keeping love first in all things. A man determined not only to rule Turia, but to see it grow and prosper yet again.
