ELITE AERIAL GUARD
The Elite Aerial Guard was created and trained by Dalanar, orginating in the city of Arimus after it was rebuilt. These fierce warriors ride on Tarns....birds much like giant eagles and a few on Rocs, which make even the giant eagles look small. As their name implies, the aerial guard protects from the sky, offering air support to the Dominion ground forces and surving as the local law enforcement in Arimus City.
Recruits to the Aerial Guards undergo strenuous and rigorous training. They must learn the sword, the bow and the lance, with a demand for perfection. They are challenged and tested beyound their limits each and everyday. Only recruits that survive the first month of weapons training progress to the flight school. The flight training makes what came before seem a walk in the park. Make no mistake about it; giant or not; any eagle is still a bird. All birds are capible of lightning fast reflexes and instant changes in movement. Riding on one doesn't even compare to flying a jet plane. Eagles are also preditors. Riders that do not earn their mounts respect run the risk of becoming dinner.
Recruits that do complete the training to become full Aerials would not trade the life for anything. They do indeed bind with their tarns or rocs as closely as any married couple would be. Both rider and raptor are very protective of one anouther. They work together as a team, each really a member of the aerial guard. Even with a deadly sharp lance, a powerful bow and a quick sword, the tarn is the Aerial's strongest weapon.
Eagles are naturally fierce by nature. Tarns and Rocs only more so. Without the binding of Aerial and tarn, nurtured by Dalanar's beast mastery, the aerial guard would not exsist. Be that as it may, the Aerial Guard has been very successful. Any Aerial guard is capible of making a kill shot from a mounted position from at least three hundred feet above its target with a bow. The lance comes into play next, as the tarn swoops towards its target. If that doesn't end any opponent, then the deadly sharp talons or the powerful bone crushing beak of the tarn will. When the rider strikes an enemy, so does its mount.
The Roc riders comprise more of a bomber fleet. They can be used in close combat against exceptionally large enemies, but that almost never comes into play. Otherwise, Rocs use their ability to lift anything the size of a blue whale or smaller and drop it on enemies, usually taking out half a battalion or more. Rocs are so large, they do lack the manuverability of the tarns, so rocs never fly without an escort of at least three Tarns.
