Guilderland Invitational Championship Race Previews

Who Will Take "The Morley" and "The Drake" This Year?

Sandy Morley Championship Race

This year's Morley Championship race will be one of the tighest team competitions in recent memory. Three teams coming off of invitational victories last weekend looking to contend are Burnt Hills, Chatham and Niskayuna. Burnt Hills junior Liz Montgomery lead the Spartans to victory at the Wizard Invitational, edgding out the host team; Washingtonville. Chatham moves up from their small school division last year after winning the Blackbird Invitational. The Chatham Panthers are paced by senior Tiffany Coon. Finally, Niskayuna stunned the crowd at the Shaker Invy by ousting some of Section II's finest teams. The Nisky Silver Warriors are lead by the reigning Morley champion, Caitlin McTague, who was 3rd at the Footlocker National XC Championships last season. Look for McTague to not only win the Morley race again, but run after a course record!

Bill Drake Championship Race

The Drake Championship will feature several 2003 invitational winners as well and looks to be just as exciting. Essex of Vermont is coming off a win at their home invite last weekend. The Essex Hornets are lead by junior David Emerson. Kellenburg Memorial, runner-up here last year to eventual Fed Champion Shenendehowa, was 2nd at the Wizard Invy last weekend. They are paced by Matt Lowenthal. The Chatham boys are also coming off a win at the Blackbird last weekend. Chatham, moves up from their win in the small division last year behind the efforts of senior Nick Sarro. Sarro, the reigning Section II Class C Champion, will likely be in the hunt to win the individual title with Colonie's Bryan Murphy and Guilderland's Brian Rhodes-Devey not far behind. Darkhorses to win the team title are Colonie and Guilderland.
