POW camps during were WWI were extremely unsanitary and disgusting. Disease spread quickly throughout the camps and many prisoners as well as guards fell ill and died. The prisoners were beaten numerous times in the day. Some say that if the guards didnt kill them the loneliness and terrifying environment would. The guards rarely fed the prisoners so the inmates were left with the trash of the soldiers and since the food was rare for just the soldiers it was very rare for one of the prisoners to find something to eat. The prisoners would sometimes even be beaten by the soldiers because they are begging so much or just for fun. Truly these camps were horrible.
