| Cold War Journal Things like the Red Scare went Hollywood fast and movies were quickly made. The first movie based on the Cold War was set in 1947. The government actually persuaded Warner Brothers and MGM to make these movies in order to create nationalism and support the war effort. Also television had a big impact on the cold war. Since TV was such a new and exciting thing in that time many people wanted to do it, this created an easy access gateway for many companies and shows to grab peoples attention so the people can give them money. The Cold War was the main reason many new war weapons were created and almost used all around the world. Such things such as ICBMs came from this new technology however without all this new war technology computers would have not been created. Since the Cold War created such need for new technology then it also created competition. Such competition was things like America and Russia racing to the moon and it also started a more dangerous Arms Race. Basically the Cold War had its good effects and bad effects yet nothing about it was exciting. Espionage was basically the Cold Wars forte. Hardly a shot was fired during this war but a lot of sneaking around took place and this created a lot of uncomfortable feelings for the governments of both Russia and America. Everyone always had to literally have eyes in the back their head. The curiosity of what the apposing side was up to was enourmous. People like Markus Wolf and Nikolai Khokhlov snuck all over the world to gain intelligence against a possible future attack or special weapon their enemy could be creating. People like them were the only foot soldiers in the Cold War. The Cold War did not create new bombs but instead improved on the old ones. Things such as a A-bomb were given things like motion trackers and micro chips turning them into smart bombs which could be launched from the ground and end up in another country. When all these were known then people began to become afraid that a nuclear attack was inevitable and there was no way to stop it. Some people created shelters that could hopefully save them from the blast and some just waited it out and prayed for the best. All and all the Cold War was extremely scary even though no one died. |
