STORY OF BELTANE

Beltane is the celebration to welcome the summer. This festival was first started by the celts. Bel was the welsh sky god and tan meant fire. Together, these words mean "Fire In The Sky" which would make sense, because this is the time of the sun and heat. Fires by the celts were throughout the whole celebration, symbolizing the energy and importance of the sun. The sick and weak usually passed through two sets of fires, to cure and energize them. The maypole is usually done at this time, the ribbons representing the goddess and the pole representing the god.

The description for beltane is taken from the Witches Coffee Shop, I find Beltane difficult and required a description that I could feel comfortable with so this is it. For those wishing to visit there you will find a link on the links page to go and meander a while.
