 Meditations

The wave had gently touched the shore
And swept my footprints off the sand
No knowledge'd help me, human's lore
Is useless. Save me, hold my hand

My life is glaring, but it's smile
Is only grin of old fat rat
No way to win cause all is guile
And blindly flies black monstrous bat

All diamonds that I've seen are glass
And wine in goblet turns to ash
When crowd of fools just tries to grasp
The glittering gold that's truly trash

For only thing that's true and real
Is tomb awaiting me at end
With silent coldness that I’ll feel
In sepulchre built in nowhere land.

Nothing New

There’s nothing new to say about this world
Which turns forever? All around the sun…
But like those others I would add my word
Just to increase the mess? Or maybe, to have fun?..
I don’t believe there is no way to leave
The circles of world and join the greater love
There in the light the living starts to live
We saw the token – heavens sign is dove
Here under siege we hardly linger on
The ruling king is not the shining one
But only few can see, those trying to hold on
In readiness to meet the new age’s dawn
Who said this world is important at all?..
Who said that we were meant to be here?
But few are mortals waiting for His call
And rare ones with ears fit to hear…
And those are weak who deem that they are strong
All by themselves, without higher breath…
Of Him who gave us all, and who is never wrong!
And by his will we’re saved from our death.

Thank You

I thank you that you are
No matter – near, far
And cloud of love is burst
I was not last, not first
So now I laugh in rain
No more I feel the pain
Entire lament passed
And only joy is last
To see your smiling face
To feel you just in pace
To know – you live on earth
Be glad of burning hearth
To feel the flowing time
To make my words in rhyme
To breathe cold winter’s air
To see – the world is fair
I thank you for that all
It looks like dreamer’s ball
No metter – here, not
You always filled my thought.

By The Sea

By the sea I stand and the sea I hearken
Waves are singing song; From the depths that darken
Mermaid comes to me, sign of love and beauty
I’ll forget my home, all my lords and duties
See her face! My God, never saw its likeness
If she’s not by me ever cry in darkness
Smile ensnares my soul; there’s no way to rescue
But I wish no help, or who wishes, I ask you?
Till the end I’ll sit by the sea to listen
To the song of waves, and my mermaid’s kisses
Will upraise my strength and unveil my feeling
She’ll be all my life, dreams by her fulfilling.

Waves

Waves, waves, gentle waves
Waves are falling
Voice, voice, gentle voice
Voice is calling
“Come, come, come and see
I’ll be near…
Ever last, never gone
And you’ll hear
Song of waves, gentle waves
Ever falling
Cry of gulls, proud gulls…”
Voice is calling.
I’m seduced; it’s my choice
And I’m falling
To her arms, by her voice
Voice that’s calling
From the waves, gentle waves
Ever falling…

My Lord

There up in the highlands by thy eagles’ nest
Where longest road ends, where my soul is guest
I just came by thy call going up the hill
And before my bell tolls to fulfil thy will.

Be my guide on this road, let me rich thy goal
And I name thee My God, help me be, my soul
There’s no treasure dearer and no greater love
Let me come just nearer, bless me with thy dove

The Game

You feel the heat upon a stage
You wish the fight and blinding rage
Is burning high inside your breast
And dreams of revenge running fast
But rival is one step ahead
And table’s green is stained with red
All cards you hold in hand are trash
And he’s got ready royal flash.
You play with Life, of course, yet still
The candles are blown out with a chill
Cold breath of Death, which rules the game
And none of mortals is to blame…
So flee, go haste, back to the shore
No time to waste, there is much more
To learn and see from falling waves
Of stormy sea, and stony caves
Are never lit by sun or star
And in their splits dim-deep and far
The stone’s repeating seabirds call
And mighty roar of waterfall.

The River

When shining sun is up on sky
I laugh I sing and joy I feel
And seems to me – the death is lie
And river? – river’s flowing still

In forest deep the tree is grown
And pulse of life in roots is real
And king awhile is on his throne
But mighty river’s flowing still

The fire of war devours the land
And thousand mouths are crying – ‘kill!’
All lordship fails like castle of sand
But river, river’s flowing still.

The bloody rain is falling down
Prevails in hearts the blacklords will
And horror comes with shadow crown
It's only river flowing still.

On The Shore

The sun is falling down and on the shore I stand
I’m listening to the sea and building on the sand
The crystal castle of love, of visions, songs and dreams
While rainbow drop by drop is gathering in the streams.

Then gull is flying far, like bell its crying sings
And darkening sky is blind with many cloud rings
The thunder of the North has broken my castle down
The light has gone away and king has lost his crown

The Journey

The road is straight when you begin
The way is right and meadow’s green
No hindrance, barrier, mistake
No turns yet seen for feet to take
And smooth is surface of the road
It’s pavement good, it’s rims so broad
The errand’s pleasure – easy walk
Friends striding nearby to talk...
But step by step, and minutes run
And darker grows the light of sun
The path is narrow, grey and dim
You walk alone in silence grim
No surface smooth, nor pavement left
There are some turns, here right, there left
And one by one all friends are gone
To take the roads of their own.
And maybe some of them will call:
‘Come on! This way! There is your goal!’
And doubt and fear fills your heart –
‘God knows he’s right?’ but choice is hard.
There are too many crossroads here!
‘O, where’s sky that was so clear?’
You pass them by and in your mind
The glamour’s left of faces kind,
Of things that ever may have been
But only in your thought are seen
And all the joys you’ve passed by
Are distant visions cold and dry
Here every point’s of no return
While every bridge behind you burns
And every thing you ever did
Of pain and torture was a seed.

Here You Cometh

So here you cometh
Long leagues a-roaming
Under the deep shade
What have you seen?
Maybe on sea-shore
Or up in the mountains
Met you my friend
Who had gone from my home…

Maybe you knoweth
Where goes his road
What are the paths
That he took long ago?
What are your tidings,
Is there wind blowing?
Thunder is storming?
Or is peaceful the sea?

Have you seen sunset?
Over deep waters falling
Bloody wrath growing
Or still dawn is to come?
Will rivers dry up?
Are birds still singing?
Or silent is forest
And nightfall is near?

Is He still walking
In flash truly breathing
Is He a ghost
In the shadows unseen?
Tell me, I beg you,
Whence comes your road
Don’t stay thus speechless
Is my hope true?

Silmarilli

Three stones of crystal, fires within –

Telperion with silver green

Laurelin of golden light

The Silmarils were holding tight

Three crystals, stones with fire within, -

Great work of elves, - were seldom seen

On brow of Feanor mighty smith

Who’s gone forever, now he’s myth

Oh, Silmarili, Heavens dream

One on black sky by night is seen

One hidden on the seafloor’s stone

The last among earth’s rocky bones

Black Morgoth killed light of Trees

And darkness came with icy breeze

The Stones were stolen, light was gone

Finwe had lost his life and throne

And Feanor against his kin

Had turned his anger, sword was keen

And doom by Mandos cursed him

He perished in darkness grim

 Oh, Silmarili, Heavens dream

One on black sky by night is seen

One hidden on the seafloor’s stone

And one among earth’s rocky bone

But Bauglir had lost his prey

By hand of mortal shining ray

Returned back to earth of Men

And flame of Trees was seen again

And Valar’s wrath and rage of light

Prevailed, Evil’s will to fight

Was broken, and the new age’s dawn

Had driven him away, he’s gone

Oh, Silmarili, Heavens dream

One on black sky by night is seen

One hidden on the seefloor’s stone

The last among earth’s rocky bones

Time

You say it’s time, you think it’s time
To dig the gold from deepest mine
But what is time? Who knows! I don’t
The river flowing, which ends not ?…
And when you lack it, know – that’s why
So many old an youngsters cry
For wasted years, minutes, days
But vain are cries and vain are prayers
For wasted time. So me and you
Are carried down by river too
To find what not, we can’t pretell
To nurish lake in hidden dell?
Or join the waves of furhtest seas?
Who cares now, we are like bees
O’er mead and flower buzzin’ NOW
They die by winter, and who knows how
In our turn we’ll leave this world
With clutch of pain? Or with our Lord?
So let no trouble bother thee
We were meant for joy and glee
Go, catch this moment, labour now
while fools consider what and how

Simple Story

Oh once upon a time, like in a fairy tale
When in my open window flew a nightingale...
And morning was so bright like in a fair dream
I took my tiny boat and drifted down the stream
And floating by and by, a-speeding to the south
Just once upon a time I reached river’s mouth
There, glimmering blue and gray it was an open sea
In whole this fair world the only worth to see
It’s rolling waves deepgreen and tender foam snow-white
Beloved gulls with music holding heart so tight
And once upon a time, like in a dream that’s true
I heard a singing voice, the very song of blue
And playing on the beach among the golden sands
Like rare flower frail so difficult to tend
Like evening in the fields, when wind is strong and fresh
Like thunder in the night, when mountains crumble and crash
I saw a mermaid there, and foam upon the shore
Enchanted stood I still, and world there was no more.
She held a cup in hand with wine so sweet and dense
And music of her voice inviting for a dance
With quiet hiss of waves, like lullaby so gentle
And there under skies like black and starry mantle
I found my gift of love and sweet was taste of kiss
But Time is cruel king who teases showing bliss
Two years passed by and minutes ran unceasing
I longed for my home and beach no more was pleasing
I left her on the shore, got back up to the mountains
To see dark piny dells and drink from icy fountains
So now I walk abroad, I’m free, my smile is glad
But glee is of my mind and heart of mine is sad
So story ends with it, what’s only left to say –
I wish I could return, but I forgot the way.

Meeting

Strange Man I saw standing tall on a highway

Smiling at nothing, laughing at naught

Turning to me, he said – 'merry a sunray

Never you've noticed! Never you've heard

Calling o'seagulls o'er wave blue and clear

Never saw pine tree proud and tall!

May you repent now, fee be true tear

Least you may hear a silverbells' toll

Scared and trembling, I dashed off in madness

Seeking a path leading back to my earth

Far on a highway the Man stood in sadness...

Here I sit by the fire of my hearth.

Frosty are nights, golden leaves now are falling

I open my window for the wind to come in

Ringing thru air silver bells now are tolling

Lord! May this fear be my ultimate sin!

sometimes...

sometimes I sit alone and stare into the screen
or typing words that are, will be or just have been
and bites are passing by my wires to and fro
all spinning, twisting, rushing, flying, less or more
to bring before my eyes and make me think, your verse

sometimes I sit alone and gloom creeps outside
still cosiness in here, cat sleeping by my side
the lone light in the dark makes room appear warm
be there wind of fury, clouds torn by storm
I stare at my screen, I think, I read your verse

sometimes I sit alone, no feelings and no friends
mad thoughts inside my head are mocking me like fiends
for winter of the heart makes face and eyes be pale
no garden left, no tree, no song of nightingale
I find my ease and hope, I stare and read your verse

To C.N.

Is life a fruit of our choice or is its reason?

Must one be glad, for we depart, but for a season

Alike the rich, alike the poor or young and old

We linger here. Passing nights are cold…

For haven is away and deep is hidden ore

Under tangl’d boughs light is seen no more

Love for a man is means but not the end

Leastways you wish to build your life on sand.

Years may be glad, and fire be bright and hearth be warm

Still noone knows when ship will wreck and what is storm

On goes the tide, on blows the wind, horncall is loud

Rise now and walk, let no despair, no darkling cloud

Rest on your brow, beguile your thought and steal your glee

You are a guest, and so I am and all who’s free.

Estel

All my life I play, pose I imitate

Make myself believe lies so intimate

That I can so stand, being of my own

What is mine by right is the ruler's crown

For my weakness strong makes my reason blind

Thickets hide my path and I run like hind

Wandering feet go on whither I don't know

Passions drive me on, wishes make me bow.

Things I'm mad to hold, hope to slake my thirst

Blow the fire high, more desires burst

Foul coward slug, glutton crowned with pride

Is the thing I find just beneath my hide

And deep down inside I still fear the truth

For there are no proofs that there is no proof

And I sooth myself, lull my fear in mist

Ring of daily thoughts gathering for a feast

Prey upon my mind, sucking life away

From the morn till morn, every single day

Drag me down the night with no hope of dawn

Hiding bare facthood of my striding on

Doleful journey brief, crossing of the road

Whither do I go, can I break my mould?

Constant cheerless pace, drudging thoughtless toil

Just another day till I feed the soil

Scared I am to tread such a narrow path

Looming up ahead loath gate of death

Footing firm to stand, steady wind to sail

Are the things I crave, pass-by dreams I hail

Tossing to and fro, grieving on the shore

Things that never were, and will be no more

Might-have-beens of chance never found yet lost

Filling castle of mind like invading host

Wave upon the shore… on again I write

Of the seagulls far, of the frosty bite

Of the autumn day under mournful skies

Of the death that lives, of the life that dies

Till my body crushes, till my spirit goes

Where I dare not say that no one knows

Being only One leading to relief

Reason will not help, and the word's – belief.

In Praise of The Barrow-Downs

Beware of the wights if your path leads that way
Anger lurks here where is no trace of day
Roaming souls of the vagabond world
Raging in Darkness under skies ever cold
Over the valley and under the hill
Wraiths walk abroad, host of fear and thrill
Deadly their eyes, greenish burning within
Oath to keep, cracking bones and no skin
Woven are spells of the powerful word
Never to fail, be unbroken their sword…
So, beware of the wights on the
Barrow-Downs way!

In Praise of The Barrow-Downs (2)

Be ye cheerful, be ye mirthful
Ale be flowing, sing ye gleeful
Rare be anger, beef be roasting
Real be made yer table boasting
Oft be singing, rare be weeping
Wood be burning, bones be heaping
Dark be fearless, stars be shining
Oft together ye'll be dining
Wights be feasting, minstrels derry
Night be dancing, morn be merry
Sing ye joyful, sing together!

(This latter verse was a part of  2004 Barrow-Downs’ Birthday Celebration! (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=10646)
