| Official Course Description: This course focuses on the changing roles and functions of different public and private international organizations and the services they provide. Students gain an understanding of the way intergovernmental organizations work and the specific functions and responsibilities of various bodies and organizations such as the Security Council, General Assembly, ECOSOC, and regional economic commissions. In addition, students gain an appreciation of the mandates of different UN development programs and agencies, funding bodies, and specialized organizations. Through role-playing, students work on issues within the UN system to further explore the complexities of international organizations and their management. Visits to the UN and first-hand dialogue with senior UN officials are an integral part of the program. |
