Portland 2004

This time I was abroad to participate in the 16th Symposium on Boundary layers and Turbulence (AMS) and the GABLS kind-of-annual-meeting, this year held in Portland, Maine, USA (thus eastcoast). It is a small city, located at the Casco Bay, with a lot of activity on lobster fishing. During the first weekend, there was kind of cultural street & music festival. We made some nice cruises over the Bay, a train trip, but of course we also did some work and became inspired :P by the beer we consumed.... On the way back, we left New York just in time before the hurricane Charley arrived.
And with our prof you need to do at least one railway trip. Right: old train in the small musuem.
Our cruise over Casco Bay
Our landing in Portland
A nice band was playing at the street festival
Our cruise: beautiful clouds
One of the private islands in Casco Bay
Who are these three stable fisherman friends? : Fred, Bas and GABLS-Bert
Bas is trying to arrange something, or is she trying to arrange something while Bas integrates the turbulent kinetic energy equation over the boundary layer depth ...??? (thanks to Aline)
