Falling Star

A Star fell down upon the Earth one day,
Though whether ‘twas a whole star I can’t say;
Perhaps just a chunk of star came down
A fiery gem from some celestial crown.
It leveled forests with a mighty “boom”,
And kicked up such a deadly dusty plume;
Earth was cloaked in night for many a day,
And many creatures simply died away.
Its impact made a crater in the ground,
Where pieces of it still sometimes are found
Interred within their stone and earthen tomb,
Where now tall trees and scented flowers bloom.
I personally prefer stars to stay
Out in the universe, far, far away.
Life gives Earth so much of its distinction,
I don’t wish to see more mass extinction.
