CARPET YARD ISSUES

Customer Service

John- Crew Chief

- Tried to talk us out of going with the diagonal format in the foyer, not keeping the floor receptacle, and asked who was putting back the railing. All of these questions were based on causing less labor for him or maybe does not know how to do it. If railing was an issue it should have been discussed before hand when the estimate was given. Now we do not trust John to complete foyer because quality and railing issues. Now we would prefer to have someone other than John completes this job because of issues and may consider having another company inspect work for proper installation and quality. John took Gary to Home Depot to get caulk and didn’t escort him into the store. He simply said that he should get “25 year white” caulk. That’s not very helpful for someone that doesn’t know what type of caulk to purchase.

-Gary was given 30 to 45 mins. Notice on 11/3 that they were coming

Quality Workmanship Lacking

- Jon pushing workers to go as fast as possible. The word “run” was heard by Gary. Workers were at our residence until after 10 PM on 10/31/06 because John called them and told them to finish; again rushing the job. Alexandria construction code is to work only to 6 PM.

- Railing was put back incorrectly so now there are holes and marks in the floor because it had to be moved. Split in bull nose filled in with putty, miter not great. This area should have the best installation possible, since it is at eye level to anyone that walks into the house. On a second visit to Home Depot, Gary was asked to go back to HD for the correct railing kit because the molding was pine not oak.

- There are scratches in the floor from workers moving the compressor. John stated it is not furniture and tried to blame Gary.

- The floor is finish work meaning that all miters should be done exact and minimum face or top nailing only if no other choice same with stairs.

- Miters in baseboard done wrong filled in with calk.

-Stairs are 3 pieces not 2 as standard?

Poor Clean Up

-Holes in walls! Not patched

-Gary had to move the 6 boxes of wood, Door stops not put back.

-Old doors not removed.

-They didn’t clean their mess each day because they were rushed, so some was left in rooms completed previously.

ISSUES

John tried to get out of putting railing back, tried talking us out of going with diagonal in foyer and not keeping floor receptacle assuming because it would be less labor for him or maybe does not know how to do it.

If railing was an issue it should have been discussed before hand when the estimate was given.

1. John pushing workers to go as fast as possible which means questionable quality in workmanship.

Worked until after 10 PM on 10/31/06 because John called them and told them to finish again rushing the job. Alexandria construction code is to work only to 6 PM

John also stated to works that they would not be coming back the next day 11/1 leaving what was started incomplete so I could not put everything back in place.

2. Do not trust John to complete foyer because of quality and railing issues.

3. Have someone other than John complete because of issues.

I am considering having another company inspect work for proper installation and quality.

Railing was put back wrong so now there are holes and marks in floor because it had to be moved. Split in bull nose filled in with putty, miter not great

Railing kit “my cost” not installed correctly? “will check with Home Depot” should be installed under flooring?

Railing kits not needed the way it was done, waste of money?

Scratches in floor from compressor John stated it is not furniture and tried to blame me.

The floor is finish work meaning that all miters should be done exact and minimum face or top nailing only if no other choice same with stairs.

Most stairs are top or face nailed.

Miters in baseboard done wrong filled in with calk.

Dent in floor from workers tools they did not put anything down or care.

Holes in walls above baseboards. Not patched

Asked to go back to HD for the correct railing kit because the molding was pine not oak.

I had to go back into HD and ask someone which type of calk to get.

I was given 30 to 45 mins. Notice on 11/3 that they were coming

1/8 gaps on riser filled in with calk. I could have done that wrong myself that’s why we paid someone.

I had to move the 6 boxes of wood.

Door stops not put back have to patch marks \ holes from door handles.

Labor was saved not having to put old closet doors back in, I will pay someone else to install new doors that are ordered or do it myself.

45 degrees on border ends in foyer with biscuits and glue?

Old doors not removed

Stairs are 3 pieces not 2 as standard?

They did into clean mess, again rushed.

Had to wait until second day after asking him on the first day and call John to get baseboard from Home Depot so furnisher had to be moved twice.

Points added after 11/08/06 fax to Ray Halpern

John told me that I am going to have to calk molding.

Tear in sheet rock paper on ceiling from plastic.

Laura asked if he worked for J & J contracting or siding maybe he did and that was the issue or maybe he was offended somehow.

I had removed every piece of furniture, carpets and personal items possible as preparation. I am sure more than many other customers and stayed out of their way as much as possible to not watch over them to make them uncomfortable. I also help moving furniture and put almost everything back in place but one bed that I helped with.

More than 106 feet of baseboard not needed another waste of my money.
