POETRY PLACE
PROJECT PROFILE -The students will be working with different web pages. They will read, analyze, and publish poems. They will identify examples of figurative language. When creating their own poems,they will use similes, mataphors, alliteration, hyperbole, personification etc. The poems will reflect their feelings regarding heritage, family, seasons, school, war,and peace.

Learning Objectives That Reflect The Standards

Explore the defining characteristics of the literary form-poetry.
 
Distinguish how an author establishes mood and meaning through word choice and figurative language.

Identify an author's argument or viewpoint and assess the adequacy and accuracy  of details used in the poem.

Critique and evaluate poetry.

Reread  and analyze clarity of writing and symbolism in poetry.

Identify ways to resolve private and public conflicts based on principles of fairness and justice.

Reflect resolutions in poetic form.

Create poetry that reflects feelings, current issues, and beliefs.

Use available technology to compose text.

Prepare poems for publication.

Use organizational strategies,diagrams, maps, webs, and Venn diagrams to plan  writing.

Classroom Management
My class has five computers linked to the internet and one printer. Students will be divided into four study groups. On the first four days of the week,each group will use the web page during their language arts class. The students will work independently on personal poetry pieces. On Friday, students will publish their poems.
