Arsenal v Dortmund

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has called up Fredrik Ljungberg for the first time since his summer hip operation ahead of the Champions League meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

Ljungberg, who had been targeting his comeback against Bolton on Saturday, is joined in the squad by Lauren, who has missed the past two games because of a knee injury.

Ray Parlour is still absent, while Edu is also a worry after sustaining a knock against Charlton at the weekend.

David Seaman is expected to be fit, despite an unspecified "slight problem but nothing urgent", according to Wenger.

"There is a very big desire in this team to do well in Europe and it is in me as well," said the Arsenal boss.

"We will give everything to win it, but it's the best teams in Europe. But I am positive and I think we will do it. Do you think I go into any competition thinking I cannot win it? No chance. We know it's difficult but we have the belief and the quality. The rest is down to performances."

Likewise, skipper Patrick Vieira said the Gunners must win the Champions League if they want to be regarded as one of Europe's biggest teams.

"We have to show that we've learned from our past experiences," said Vieira.

"It's time for us to show that we are a great side and, if we want to be one of the big clubs in Europe, you have to win the Champions League. Every big club has already won the European championship already and, if we want to be one of them, then we have to win it."

Borrusia Dortmund coaach Matthias Sammer will be without inspirational Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky, who did not travel to London because of a painful left thigh.

He should be replaced by Joerg Heinrich in the starting line-up.

Sammer is hoping that Christian Woerns can start despite being substituted with a swollen left knee in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Schalke 04.

"There is no ground for any self doubt," said Sammer. "Losing Rosicky is not a setback, we have enough good players."

Frenchman Ahmed Madouni is ready as a replacement.

Germany midfielder Torsten Frings should start after being rested on Saturday, while Brazilian Ewerthon and towering Czech Jan Koller were expected to be paired in attack.

Teams:
Borussia Dortmund (squad): 1-Jens Lehmann; 2-Evanilson, 4-Christian Woerns (or 23-Ahmed Madouni), 21-Christoph Metzelder, 17-Dede; 7-Stefan Reuter, 8-Torsten Frings, 5-Sebastian Kehl, 6-Joerg Heinrich; 9-Jan Koller, 12-Ewerthon
