Birthplace : 24.7.66 Oxford
Height : 6ft 1
Weight : 78kg
Position : Defence
A central defender of the highest quality, Martin is a crucial member of the Arsenal back four. When both are fully fit, he and Tony Adams are arguably the best pair of central defenders in the country. Strong in the air and on the ground, Martin possesses exceptional speed for a big man. An aggressive tackler with good distribution skills, he is dangerous at set pieces, where his height and strength are always liable to create difficulties in the opposition goalmouth. A calf injury caused him to miss a number of games during the middle of the 1999-2000 season, and shortly after returning to full fitness he broke a bone in his hand which sidelined him again. An automatic selection for the England international squad, he won a further ten caps and appeared in all three of his countrys matches in Euro 2000.
