Versatile French-born former Monaco player who is equally at home in midfield and defence.
Joined Arsenal in 1997 for 2.5million and made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United in August of the same year.
He has never been a first team regular at Highbury, but has been a dependable squad player whenever he has been called upon.
There is a question mark over his temperament and he has been sent-off a number of times since joining the Gunners. Will be long remembered for striking Lazio's Diego Simeone in a fierce Champions League game.
Seemed to hesitate before signing a one-year extension tieing him to Highbury until the summer of 2002, which suggests he may be off on his travels thereafter.
A member of the Monaco side that won the French championship in 1996/97.
