With his testimonial already fading from the memory (Real Madrid came to Highbury as long ago as November 1999) Manchester-born Dixon has shown precious little sign of letting age get the better of him. As far as contracts go, 2001-02 should be his last season as an Arsenal player, but we've said that before about him and he's still there.

Dixon began his career as a junior with Burnley and signed to Arsenal from Stoke in 1988.

Made his debut against Luton Town in the same year and immediately established himself as the club's first choice right-back - and he's still there and looks to have a few more years left at the top.

Dogged defending and raiding runs established him as a Highbury hero, and he was a key member of the Graham team that won the 1988/89 league title in the last minute of the season.

He then went on to play in the Gunners' FA Cup victories in 1993 and 1998.

Magnificent consistency was rewarded with England call-ups, and he was back in the squad again for a friendly against France in 1999 when he won his 22nd cap.

Now fourth on the all-time Arsenal appearance list.
