The Truth is in Here part 1

"Hey Scully,"

"Yeah?"

"You make sure you rest yourself, do you hear me?"

"Yes Mulder, loud and clear. You do the same. I'll see you in a couple of days. Have fun." she called after kissing him gently on the cheek and walking away.

Three whole days without Mulder, she couldn't wait to put her feet up and relax. She laughed at the thought of Mulder being left to do his own work. Well not exactly 'work'. The last time she left him, she came back
to find he had thrown pencils at the ceiling for the whole vacation. She laughed again as she remembered the look on his face when they had started to torpedo him as they fell. She dreaded to think what she would go back to in the office on Monday morning.

The car was cold when she climbed in and the engine wouldn't run. " Damn it! " She cried as it  rumbled then spluttered. Scully got out of the car and opened the hood. Smoke erupted from something
Inside. She coughed and stepped out of the way, cursing as she went. The car park was  empty so she couldn't ask for help, instead just rolled up her sleeves and put her face in closer so she could see what was wrong.

"BRB...BRB...BRB" her phone chorused. Scully cracked her head on the hood when she jumped at the ringing in the quiet car park. "SHHHIT!" She cried as she held the back of her head. As she pulled her hand
away blood trickled down her fingers. "OH shit. She mumbled and turned round to get some help.
She took out a tissue from her pocket and held it against the river of blood.

It was no good, it just soaked straight through. It felt warm and sticky as it dripped off her hands. Clutching her head she dizzily staggered back into the building. Her phone started ringing again, the noise making her head hurt more,  so she threw it down onto the empty reception desk.

She tried to calm herself by taking deep breaths but her head was spinning with pain and there was so much blood that she thought she was going to die...without being able to to tell her best friend how much she loved him. She had finally admitted to herself how much she cared for Mulder, how much she needed him to be there for her when she needed him. Like now. She had planned to spend a few days thinking things through, considering what would happen with her job, Mulder's job, and their lives if she told Mulder how
she felt.

She started thinking as she made her way through the silent hallways: it was a rule that agents could not pursue a relationship within the F.B.I, and they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for long. She would probably have to look for a new job, which meant new people and a new way of life. She then stopped.

" What if he doesn't even feel the same way I do? I wouldn't be able to face him or work with him, knowing that I made a fool of myself and my best friend for thinking he loved me too. What if he still loves Diana? That would break my heart. He can't see the evil in her that I can. Maybe he doesn't want to. I 'd be better off staying here and dying right now than having him tell me he loves her and not me." she sat down against the wall next to the elevator and cried into her blood stained hands. Then she remembered the look Mulder got in his eyes when she had kissed him that morning. They lit up like a small child's  when they receive a present. Maybe it was a gift to him, perhaps he did share her feelings.

" I need you Mulder ", she whispered as she pulled herself up and stumbled into the elevator. She pressed the button and slid down the cold wall, holding her knees as she huddled in the elevator corner. She jerked as she reached the basement. The doors opened and she staggered out into the corridor, hoping every second of the way that Mulder would still be there to help her.

"Come on Scully, answer the phone", he mumbled. Just at that moment Scully slammed open the door and stumbled in.

"Jeeze Scully what the hell happened? Here let me help you" He dropped his phone and grabbed her just as she fell. He caught her in his arms as she passed out, and carried her limp body to the elevator.

" Come on, come on" he shouted at the doors just as a group of Agents stepped out, "Call the hospital and tell them to expect an Agent with head injuries. Do it NOW!" he yelled at one of the young men.

The agents stared at Scully and made no move to help her.

"Either you do it now or I march your sorry ass there myself with the aid of my gun. Do you understand you son-of-a-bitch?" he pulled back his jacket to show his weapon and the young man quickly ran into an office.

When he got out of the elevator he put Scully gently onto the back seat of his car, took of his jacket and rested it gently under her neck.

" Come on sweetie, wake up, please!" he soothed as he stroked her face and placed a strand of hair behind her ear. He jumped into his seat and sped out of the car park, talking to Scully all the way to the hospital. When they arrived, Mulder took Scully's lifeless body into the emergency ward and a doctor rushed up to him.

"Are you agent Mulder?" the doctor asked checking Scully's pulse.

"Yes, yes I am. Help her. She needs help, the bleeding won't stop!" Mulder blurted at the doctor.

"Bring her in here Agent Mulder, put her up on the bed and I'll get some help."

Mulder raced into the emergency room and placed Scully gently onto the bed. He took hold of her small hand and brought it up to his lips.

" Please Scully, wake up, the doctor will be back in a minute."

With that he kissed her hand, not letting go of her. The doctor returned with another doctor and a nurse. The first doctor went up to Scully and checked her over.

"She's got severe head injuries, we're going to have to work fast here people! If she wakes up then she'll need morphine for the pain, so  nurse Jenkins, get the painkiller ready. Dr.Sambers, we'll need to get her down to X-ray, so lets move!"

"If she dies..." Mulder threatened the doctor.

"She's not going to Agent Mulder, if we can get her to surgery 'now'."
