| A baby at 23 weeks (3-D ultrasound) |
| Friday, February 6, 2004 Going into 23rd Week POP GOES THE BABY It's like my cousin Stephanie said, it's like something neat or exciting happens every week with the baby. Although this was a rough week (stress from watching friends go through a rough time, rude kids at school, and having a crazy ass bladder), tonight was the first time I saw the baby moving, as in, the first time I felt the kick and saw it affect the outside of my belly at the same time. I was lying on my back (not too comfy now, but whatever) watching the horrendous, now irritating show ED (my goodness, but Ed could do soooo much better than insipid Carol Vesse!), when I started feeling the baby move. I thought I saw my belly pop up some (peripheral vision), so I kept my eyes on it for a while. Sure enough, it did it again, and again. What a weird sight. You might say, totally ALIEN!! :) FEEL HOW HARD THIS IS So my belly is now getting harder. I learned that you shouldn't say "Feel how hard this is" to Chris. He will surely have a very quick comeback. Heh. (Hope that doesn't embarrass you, Donna.) I can freak him out in return, though, by stating matter-of-factly at different times of the day: "Hey, did you know I made a penis?" or "I have a penis inside of me right now!" or "I have a set of balls!" "Whatcha Gonna Name the Baby?" We are really starting to hear this question a lot these days. I never realized how many people LOVE to knock the wind out of your sails if they don't like a certain name you are considering. I'm sure they wouldn't stick their nose up in the air (at least in front of me) if we said we had decided for sure on one of these. I'm just kinda sick of the disappointed "ohs" I see sometimes. Just pretend, people. It ain't YOUR baby! :) So anyway, since I can't see any disappointed faces or hear any comments right now, here are some names we are tossing about, either as first or middle names: First: Thomas (nicknames: Tom, Tom Tom, Tom Cat...NO TOMMY), Nicholas (Nick), Lucas/Luke (COOL HAND LUKE), Jacob/Jake (JAKE is a cool guy's name, but also everyone seems to have it), Hayden (does it sound too much like Hatin?) Alexander (Chris likes Alex, I like Xander) Middle: Christopher, Michael, Lewis, Henry, Cade, Elliot, Reed This is really hard. (Kind of like my tummy!) I'd love to name the child Thomas Elliot, like TS Eliot, to keep the "poet" theme going (his cousin will be Dylan Thomas!) Hee! My cousin Glenn already has a William Blake...:) Baby Factoids: "By this week, your baby weighs almost 1 pound. It's crown to rump length is about 8 inches. It's the size of a small doll. Your baby is continuing to grow. Its body is getting plumper, but its skin is still wrinkled because it will gain even more weight. Lanugo hair on the body occasionally turns darker at this time. The baby's face and body being to assume more of the appearance of an infant at birth. Your baby's pancreas is developing." Uterus Factoids: "Your uterus extends about 1.5 inches above your belly button. You definitely have a round appearance now (NO KIDDING!)." Gotta run. A COLD CASE rerun is on. Thank goodness for TV! last next |
