TRAINING COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
LEADERSHIP I

Required for Troop/Group leaders, outdoor specialists, LITs, service unit volunteers new to Girl Scouting and volunteers who will be working with girls over an extended time.  The purpose of this course is to provide participants with knowledge of the basis principles involved in Girl Scouting and to relate those principles to their roles in Girl Scouts.  Leaders should complete this course before working with a troop on a regular basis, but must complete it within two months of starting regularly scheduled meeting with a troop.
LEADERSHIP II

Required for at least one leader in every troop/group, LITs and anyone in a troop/group leadership role who is returning after a 10 year or more absence. (A leader who has taken this course must be present at all meetings, field trips, and overnights).  The purpose of this course is to assist Girl Scout leaders in planning and implementing program based on the age specific needs, desires and skills of the girls in their troop.  Leaders should experience one or two meetings before taking this course, but must complete it within six months of starting regularly scheduled meetings with a troop.
INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR EDUCATION
PREREQUISITE:  THE LEADERSHIP SERIES

This course is a prerequisite for indoor overnight events, troop camp training and for taking girls on outdoor field trips lasting four hours or more.  In addition to covering the adminstration steps for taking an outdoor field trip, it emphasizes progression of outdoor skills, environmental awareness activities and how to incorporate the "Leave No Trace" principles of recreation into girl/adult trip planning.  This course qualifies adults to lead outdoor day trips, hikes, and outdoor activities but NOT OVERNIGHTS.  If a troop is establishing an outdoor specialist who is not a troop leader, that individual may participate in this course after having taken only Leadership I.
INDOOR OVERNIGHT EVENTS
PREREQUISITE:  INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR EDUCATION

This course prepares leaders and outdoor specialist to use girl/adult partnership to plan an indoor overnight in a facility with electricity, a kitchen and indoor plumbing.  It is recommended this course be taken at least 8 weeks prior to a troop overnight so the girls can participate in the planning.
TROOP CAMP TRAINING
PREREQUISITE:  INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Any troop/group going on an outside overnight experience must be accompanied by an adult trained in Troop Camp Training.  It is recommended this course to been at least 8 weeks prior to a troop overnight so the girls can participate in the planning.  This course will demonstrate how to guide and advise girl planned and implemented overnights of 2 nights or less (Troop Camp Training qualifies a leader or outdoor specialist to take girls either inside or outside overnight events).
TRIP AND TRAVEL
PREREQUISITE:  INDOOR OVERNIGHT EVENTS OR TROOP CAMP TRAINING OR EXTENSIVE CAMPING EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNG ADULTS

This course is required before taking a troop on backpacking, canoeing, biking, snow showing, etc. overnights and/or any extended trip of three nights or more.  This course is also required for International trips of any length.
