NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY 2003

The Senior Girl Scouts from Troop 1865 are participating in this event by assembling Arts and Crafts backpacks for the children at Children's Hospital in Seattle.  Many of the troops from the service unit have already volunteered to help assemble these backpacks.  If you would like to help out with this project you still can.  They are looking for journals, coloring books, puzzle books and items for teenages.  If you have any of these items you are able to donate to this project please bring them to the Leader's Meeting on March 17.  They are also planning a car wash to raise money to pay the supplies to go into the backpacks so come get your car washed and donate to the project.

BRONZE  AND SILVER AWARDS

Gabriele Hammon needs to know by March 17 of any girls in your troop who have completed or will completed their Bronze or Silver Awards by May 2003.  She is working on special awards for the girls and they take about 4 weeks to receive.  If you have a girl that fits into the group and you have not given the girls name to Gabriele please do so by the March 17 deadline so she can get the award with the other girls.

The 2003-04 Events Committee is busy looking at the events the service unit will be putting on next year.  If you have any suggestions on an event you would like to see or would like to help the committee plan an event let

TROOP CHECKING ACCOUNTS

If your troop does not have a Bank of America checking account yet, you have until March 30 to transfer your troop funds from the current bank to Bank of America.  A council rep will be at the March Leaders Meeting to help you with that.
TROOP ACTIVITIES DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY

TROOP 1344:
They helped plan the Sweetheart Dance on Feb. 14.  They decorated the cafe and gym, made table decorations and set up the menu for the evening.  On Feb. 26 the girls babysat the children from the Sherwood Forest Head Start Program so their parents could enjoy an evening of special treatment and dinner.  They are also continuing with their service project of cutting out cloth books for the Boeing Company.  These books will be put together by others and then go to under privileged children.

TROOP 2139: They have been learning to sew and earn their Stitch-It Try It.  They have learned to thread a needle, sew on buttons and are presently making stuffed animal pigs out of old socks.

TROOP 920: They went snowshoeing on Feb. 17.  They spend 3 hours at Longmire and then plowed to Paradise.  The ranger took them on a hike and taught them about Leave No Trace and the history of Longmire.  They also learned about packing for a snow hike and the different animal tracks and animal behaviors.  Four families also went to the Sweetheart Dance on Feb. 14 and had a great time.  Three of the 5 dads doing the YMCA were from troop 920.  On Feb. 19 the girls along with Troop 2138 went to a retirement center and had a badge night.  The Juniors worked on the Across the Generations Badge and the Brownies earned two Try-It's.  They had two Girl Scout Leaders from the 1940's and 50's tell them about scouting in those days.  Troop 920 also received the Sisterhood Special Award at Thinking Day.
