| Article From Winter 2002 Leader Magazine: When Your Daughter Is in Your Troop by Harriet S. Masatche, Ph.D Here is a small part of the article: How To Make It Work How can you be an effective leader when your own daughter is in your troop? Here are some ideas that have worked for me: 1. I try to be fair to all the girls, including my daughter. I've found that some leaders, in trying to not play favorites go overboard and never their daughters choose first, talk first or go first. That's not helpful to a mother-daughter relationship and just plan unfair to the girl in your troop who happens to be related to you. 2. Whenever possible, I've used some type of random selection techique for deciding who's doing what, whether it's chores or an opportunity to choose an activity. 3. I don't give my daughter inside information about what's going to happen. If there's going to be a surprise, she will be able to enjoy it just as much as everyone else. 4. I encourage the girls to be the real leaders in the troup. That way, they're the ones who make the deicions, not me. And my daughter gets same opportunity as the others to offer suggestions. |

| DECEMBER TROOP ACTIVITIES The following troops participated in Toy Fair, December 7: 1118, 1432, 2153 (made fleece scarves), 2188, 1733 (made scarves), 1773 ( made star and sun pillows that hang from the ceiling), and 1736 Troop 1118: They made domino sets and foxtails for Toy Fair. They went caroling with Daisy Troop 2262. They also made hand painted glass oraments as gifts for their families. They also invested a new Girl Scout and rededicated 3 others. They also had a christmas party. Looks like they were busy elves this past month. Troop 1344: They helped with the Sherwood Forest food drive. The girls separated the food and 17 needy families in the Sherwood Forest area received a wonderful gift. Troop 2153: They collected coats for One Warm Coat and donated them to the Federal Way Multi-Service Center. They also went caroling with Troop 1734. They also worked on their Caring and Sharing Try-It. They finished the month with a "sercet pal" gift exchange along with a cookie exchange. Looks like they had a busy month. |
