andy's midi glove

this was a project for my Hardware & Interfacing module at uni. It consists of a long black rubber glove with flex sensors mounted on the fingers, wrist and elbow. These sensors are connected to a microcontroller which sends out midi control change messages based on how bent each sensor is.

testing stages...

it was built with the idea of controlling drum sequences for techno. I made a Max/MSP patch which build up drum rolls depending on how bent your fingers are, and other parameters such as delay feedback, filter frequencies and so forth can be assigned to the wrist and elbow sensors.

the Max/MSP patch

obviously as the microcontroller just spits out control change messages, the glove can be used to control just about anything via Max/MSP.

work in progress...

The look of the glove is very post-Cyberdog, if I may use such a pretentious phrase.. The flourescent-on-black colour scheme and flashing pink spikes (oh yeah... the pink spikes flash when you move your fingers. It's cool as fuck) bring to mind current Camden-chic, but there is an important difference in that I haven't paid 100 for the same flourescent orange trousers as all my friends have... I am owning my cyber self!
