blobworld

blobworld is an interactive computer installation first displayed at oiu, le bruit, my degree show at the Truman Brewery in London. blobworld consists of a touchscreen which is home to a constantly evolving population of blobs, with various characteristics determined by an initially randomly generated binary genome. If left alone the blobs will fall to the bottom of the screen, and left alone for long enough they will waste away and die. Touch the screen however and the blobs will flock towards your finger, because to them your touch is food... if one touches you it grows, and if it grows big enough it will divide into two, with the child blob being subject to slight random mutation.

blobworld was implemented for this project as an object for the Max/MSP environment. the blobworld object will be available for download soon, plus (possibly) a screensaver version
