That Horrid Silence
As the daylight surrenders all it's power to the dark
A young boy wanders the streets alone
But he has a home where anyone should be safe
yet the young boy is scared
scared to turn around and face the hurt
He lies in bed at night unable to sleep at all
listening to the sounds echoing over in his mind
the hit, the scream, then a silence that chilled his soul
doors slammed and car started
an ambulence in the background
afraid to get up to see what happened
finally falling asleep to the sound of crickets
saying it's alright
he wakes up to silence
everything is a blur
blood stains on the carpet
phone hanging off the hook
broken champagne glasses
his mother's shoes tattered and torn
but no mother to be found
the car is still gone
a suitcase is missing with daddy's clothes
and now he is left alone with nothing
but silence
