Entry for August 20, 2007
Thank you for the opportunity to work with the cross country program at Northwest High School. The goals of the session are the following: 1. To screen the athletes for proper shoe type/fit and dysfunctional gait patterns that would predispose to injury during the season. 2. To teach the group targeted core strengthening and stability exercises. 3. To teach the group advanced stretching techniques. Screening for muscle imbalance and dysfunctional movement patters is relatively simple and noninvasive. Observation of several actions such as a deep squat, single leg stance, box jump, etc. reveal movement faults that may or may not be symptomatic, but certainly effect running gait. Additionally, a brief assessment of muscle balance and gait analysis can undercover injury risk. After screening, we would like to show your runners the latest strategies for retraining areas of imbalance/dysfunction. These activities should be performed by all the runners to improve general muscle balance and stability. More targeted strategies to address potential problems found in the screen will also be discussed. Sincerely, Brad Cole Senior Intern Logan Chiropractic Health Centers Schedule for Northwest HS cross country session
