The Stan Nelson Invitational this year was a tough meet for the Lions. Several runners could not finish their races due to injury and team scores were for the most part high.  There were some very bright spots however.  The freshman boys ran to a very close 3rd place finish and barely missed a trophy.  There are now FOUR freshmen in the top ten!  Several runners had huge drops in time from last season.  Jason Grossbauer and Clinton Cooksey dropped around two minutes and Blake Fisher dropped THREE!  Sarah Wohlschlaeger dropped two and a half, and Jillian dropped almost THREE!  Runners new to the team this year also had an opportunity to shine!  Steve Borthick finished in 3rd place in the boys JV and earned a Varsity spot at Cape.  Nathan Thole suprised everyone with a gutsy race finishing as the JV Boys number two man!  Meaggen Cooksey ran her first real CC race and did great moving up to third on the teams top ten list.  Hillary Self was the top JV girl and is making a push for Varsity.  Overall there are a many reasons to feel encouraged about Northwest Cross Country right now.  The results may not show it yet, but this is a talented team with a great mix of people.  Our teams results have been posted on the Stan Nelson meet page, (click on the team schedule).
