My adventure of meeting my chat friends from Lycos 40's Room began in November of 2002. The Saturday after Thanksgiving gave me my first chance to meet one of the chatters. I met Tsala and his wife (The Crazy Comanche) at a pow-wow about 10 miles from here. Unfortunately I did not remember my camera. Old age does that to ya...LOL Then on December 22, 2002, I had the pleasure of meeting Quiltmaker and her daughter Christy. They stopped by on there way to visit family here in Louisiana. Quiltie is such a lovely person and that Chrissy is a intelligent young lady. No excuse this time... I was at home and camera was here.. so picture is below. |

Ringing In The New Year !!!!!! January 2, 2003 - New Orleans, LA AHA... Remembered my camera... This was a busy day... Left Early in the morning headed for the French Quarters.. Met Gator and his wife Marsha at the Royal Blend coffee shop... I knew him at first sight and yes he is just as nice in person as he is in the chat room. Buddy (my husband) is taking the picture. |

After coffee, we walked around some... taking in the beauty of this section of New Orleans... (something both couples seem to love doing) and then we stopped for "beignets and Cafe Au Lait" at the Cafe Du Monde (umm.. another thing it seems we all love to do... pssst.. not gonna tell that it was Marsha's second set of beignets for the morning... She must love them as much as I do)... Then the wait was on for the Gang to arrive... Eleven was the appointed meeting time in front of St Louis Cathedral.. notice I said "was"... While waiting at the appointed place... "Frankie"(local character/cigarette bum/panhandler) entertained us (wouldn't leave us alone) for a period of time.... Then we received a cell phone call... THE GANG was getting close... they were crossing the Causeway Bridge coming into New Orleans... Gave then instructions on directions from there... Should have been no more that maybe 30 minutes away... Only a few minutes behind schedule... Well, about thirty minutes later another call came thru... they had missed their turn and were on other side of New Orleans.. actually headed back out towards Biloxi.. so more instructions... they are headed in the right direction now.... several more calls later they are actually in the right area... about two blocks from us... lost in a parking area... LOL... so we walk in that direction and they drive out of the lot and they are no longer lost... but they are ravenous... it is a little after 12:30 PM by then.. so first stop is a little corner cafe for some Cajun cuisine.... once our bellies are full, we head out for some adventure. Just outside the cafe by Jackson Square there is a band playing. Sassy_lassy and Solsoldest begin to dance. This leads to a disaster and somehow there is Solsoldest on the ground and we are scrmabling for cameras. Gator is ever ready... (check his photos for a shot of this). Guess this Northern Gang brought the cold with them because the temperature was dropping and the wind was beginning to really chill us. So we decided to take a carriage ride thru the historic French Quarters. Snuggled under blankets, six in one carriage and four in another one. we toured the sights.... Once back to Jackson Square.. a group of performers were just finishing an act by the riverwalk area. We were going to wait for the next performance but boy was it cold... so Gator suggested we walk over to Canal Street and catch the trolley for a tour of the Garden District.. So away we went.... We rode past some beautiful old homes and reached the end of the trolley line at which time you get up and flip back of seat the other way and sit facing the opposite direction.... and we rode it back ... By the time we returned to our starting point, we all needed a restroom break and then we walked to a really nice Italian Restuarant for dinner. (continued next page) |
