And With a Light Touch: Learning about Reading, Writing, and Teaching with First Graders by Carol Avery A very inspiring book to get you motivated about teaching reading and writing. Classrooms that Work: They Can All Read and Write by Patricia M. Cunningham and Richard Allington A great book about addressing all students and their needs. Beyond Morning Message by Valerie SchifferDanoff Contains very practical information and examples of how to jazz up a wonderful teaching tool. Teaching First Grade A Practical Guide by Min Hong A look into how a New York teacher operates a learner-centered classroom. Great resources and ideas for use in the classroom. Phonics They Use by Patricia M. Cunningham Practical ideas for phonics instruction. Making Words A great companion to the Words Block in Four Block Instruction. Guided Reading the Four Block Way by Patricia Cunningham and Dorothy Hall Fantastic Ideas for teaching comprehension skills through guided reading. Contains before, during and after activities. Month-by-Month Reading and Writing for First Grade by Patricia Cunningham Contains developmentally appropriate ideas for teaching word skills monthly. |
