“Rapyd…Rapyd!” Ryver’s voice screamed. Rapyd tried to
move, but her body was immobile. Her eyes were shut tight.
“Am I dead? Did
that blast really kill me?” Rapyd wondered. Rapyd felt Vegeta-chan lift her
body close to his.
“Rapyd! Rapyd please
wake up!” Vegeta-chan whispered in her ear.
“Oh Vegeta-chan!
I’m not dead!” Rapyd tried to say. If she could she would have just opened
her eyes and hugged him and told him everything was alright. Rapyd heard the
footsteps of another person.
“What happened?!”
Cojiro exclaimed. Vegeta-chan drew Rapyd’s body closer to him. Rapyd felt tears
drip on her face.
“Rapyd…was hit by a
blast…” Ryver said, trying not to cry. Cojiro walked over to Rapyd and gasped.
“Who did this?”
Cojiro asked angrily.
“Some guy…flew out
of the sky…” Ryver replied. “Will she be alright?”
Cojiro looked down at the ground.
“That was no blast.
She was hit by the Still Spell, a spell that freezes whoever it hits. Check her
pulse,” Cojiro said. Vegeta-chan took Rapyd’s hand and placed his fingers on
her wrist.
“There is no pulse,”
Vegeta-chan said in a monotone voice, setting Rapyd’s hand back down. Cojiro
smiled weakly.
“Well, that’s a good
sign. The spell freezes her, so it freezes her blood as well as the rest of
her,” Cojiro said. Ryver breathed a sigh of relief.
“So how do we cure
Rapyd?” Ryver asked.
“That I don’t know.
We need to go see the Elder for the answer,” Cojiro said. Ryver nodded, and
Vegeta-chan stood up and picked up Rapyd.
“Lead the way,”
Vegeta-chan said blankly. Cojiro walked along the street, with Vegeta-chan and
Ryver behind him. Soon, they were in front of a small hut.
“Why does your elder
live here?” Ryver asked. Cojiro shrugged.
“He doesn’t like to
draw attention to himself, I guess,” Cojiro replied. Cojiro knocked on the
door.
“Come in,” an old
voice replied. Cojiro opened the door slowly and walked in, Ryver and
Vegeta-chan behind him. The room was dimly lit, and smelled strongly of incense
and spices.
“Sit down. Sit down
my children,” the elder said, gesturing towards the floor in front of him. They
sat down, and Vegeta-chan carefully placed Rapyd’s body in front of him.
“Elder, their friend
was frozen by the Still Spell-“ Cojiro started, but the elder stopped him.
“I know, Cojiro,” he
said. “You’ve come to ask me the cure to the Still Spell.”
“T-that’s right! Can
you tell us the cure?” Cojiro asked. The elder put his glasses on and grabbed a
book from the floor next to him. He started flipping through the pages.
“Still Spell…Still
Spell…Still Spell,” the elder muttered, looking at the book. Ryver anxiously
twiddled her fingers while Vegeta-chan stared blankly down at Rapyd.
“Aha!” the elder
exclaimed. “Oh dear…” the elder muttered, reading the page.“I’m afraid the
ingredients needed to make the cure are far too dangerous to try and get. You
all would die before you gathered them all. No, I’m afraid that it would be
better to just leave the one with the still spell to die then to have the rest
of you die, too,” the elder said.
Vegeta-chan quickly stood up. He looked from Rapyd to the elder.
“Give me the list of
ingredients,” Vegeta-chan said.
“But it’s too
dangerous!” the elder protested.
“Give me the list of
ingredients,” Vegeta-chan repeated. “I would rather die trying to save Rapyd
than just leaving her to die.”
“Oh, all right,” the
elder said, ripping the page out of the book and handing it to Vegeta-chan.
“Cojiro, you’d better go with them, they’re going to need help finding their
way around,” the elder said. Cojiro nodded, standing up. Ryver stood up too,
and Vegeta-chan picked up Rapyd as they walked back out of the elder’s hut.
It was dusk when
they walked out of the elder’s hut.
“We’d better stay
the night at my place. Tomorrow we can head out and start searching for the
ingredients,” Cojiro said. “By the way, what’s on that list?”
“Uh, lets see…one fairy’s wing, a scale of a fire
dragon, a pint of giant’s blood, and two feathers of a Griffin,” Vegeta-chan
said calmly. Cojiro’s face paled.
“You sure you want
to do this?” Cojiro asked, fear in his voice. Vegeta-chan’s eyes narrowed.
“Yes I’m sure. Why
are you so worried about it?” Vegeta-chan said.
“Why!? I’ll tell you
why! Fairies are next to impossible to find here, fire dragons only live in
volcanoes and are extremely temperamental, no ones ever encountered a giant
before and lived to tell about it, and Griffins pride themselves by their
feathers and hate losing them,” Cojiro said angrily.
“Oh,” was all
Vegeta-chan could say.
“Yeah. Here’s my
house,” Cojiro said, stopping in front of his house. They walked in, and Cojiro
lit the lamps.
“Well I guess we
should eat dinner and go to bed,” Cojiro said.
After Vegeta-chan
had eaten dinner, Cojiro had shown them each their own separate rooms.
Vegeta-chan brought Rapyd in and sat her down on the ground. There was a pallet
for him to sleep on and a blanket on top of it. Vegeta-chan grabbed the blanket
and put it over Rapyd’s body. He knelt down and kissed Rapyd’s forehead.
“I won’t fail you.
I’ll get all the ingredients to bring you back,” Vegeta-chan whispered, walking
back to his pallet. He lay down and closed his eyes; drifting off to sleep.
