After reviewing the criteria for evaluating a documentary, I am now convinced that the documentary on "teenage sex," the one we had been watching for the last few days, most certainly fits the criteria.
First off, the topic of the documentary, "teenage sex," contributes to the field of knowledge or to society in general. Teenage sex has become a very serious issue of today's society and is now evident through the access of the media. Since teenage sex has currently become a world-wide issue that is inevitably exposed to the public, the producer of the documentary succeeded in fulfilling the first criteria.
Even after selecting a suitable topic, some producers fail to make their documentaries valid and viable with authoritative sources to support. The producer of this particular documentary, however, interviews the authories, such as doctors from the town health center and the mayor of the city. The interviews with the authories definitely played a big role in helping the documentary to be trustworthy.
Lastly, the documentary is not only presented in an engaging way but also in a cohesive way. It is a bit inappropriate for this documentary to show any visual or audio components for its suggestiveness. Yet, the producer was able to successfully film the documentary with the interviews and filming of the victims of syphilis, creating an engaging atmosphere. Through the interviews with authorities and the victims and their parents, the documentary seems very cohesive, satisfying the last criteria for evaluating a documentary.
With all these elements fulfilling the standards of a well-produced work, the documentary enables its audience to fully engage in the serious atmosphere of teenage sex.
